The Intelligent Machine Systems team is seeking Engineering Manager(s) to lead electronic systems and software development teams in New Product Introduction, Lifecycle Management, and the continuous improvement of Caterpillar's electronic systems and software used in mining and construction machinery. These leaders will provide technical, operational, and people leadership to engineering teams which collaborate closely with machine development organizations within Caterpillar's machine product organizations. These teams plan, design, develop, and deliver the electronic systems and software in alignment with machine development programs to meet product objectives. These roles are accountable for talent development, product quality, execution excellence and cross functional collaboration, providing strategic oversight and alignment across global engineering organizations and support teams.

What You Will Do - Engineering Manager:

This role provides direct supervision for engineering team members. The Engineering Manager is accountable for staffing, coaching, mentoring, performance management, career development, and fostering an inclusive, high-performing team culture. They will lead an organization consisting of approximately 10-25 engineering professionals, ensuring organizational effectiveness, aligning resources to strategic priorities, and driving execution across multiple product platforms and engineering teams.

The role provides leadership in the following areas:

People Leadership

• A leader who translates strategy into execution, creating clarity, urgency, and accountability to deliver measurable outcomes. Builds strong cross-functional alignment and effectively influences stakeholders to move priorities forward and resolve barriers to execution.
• Develops and coaches direct reports and emerging leaders, providing opportunities for increased ownership, decision-making, and leadership growth. Builds the next generation of leaders by recognizing potential, providing meaningful feedback, and creating a strong pipeline of capable talent.
• Maintains an active opportunity funnel and prioritizes work based on customer problem severity, business economics, timing, technical feasibility, resource availability, and strategic fit.

Product Leadership

• The team has global product responsibility. The manager will lead the team in new product introduction, life cycle management, problem resolution, cost control, quality, and intellectual property management
• Capture lessons learned to inform future product requirements, product line decisions, and process and organizational improvements.
• Frame ambiguous opportunities into clear project scope, plans, decision points, and recommendations.

Technology Leadership

• Stay engaged with technology and industry trends to align new technology to business opportunities.
• Understand, communicate, and apply technology initiatives across Caterpillar products
• Collaborate closely with engineering partners across hardware and software development teams as well as with machine Product Groups to align and execute product development with quality and velocity.

What You Will Have:

Top Candidates Will Have:

Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience

Direct Supervisory experience along with demonstrated strong timely staff work needed to manage the business

Systems, controls, and/or embedded software development experience

Experience with New Product Introduction, New Technology Introduction, Continuous Product Improvement, and software validation

Demonstrated communication skills and the ability to relate complex technical topics to business objectives

Ability to work in a diverse global team environment

Deep expertise in machine electronic systems engineering, providing technical leadership in system architecture, controls, integration, and product development.

Drives excellence in requirements management, design quality, validation, reliability, functional safety, cybersecurity, and product performance through strong systems thinking, technical decision-making, risk management, and cross-functional collaboration.

Additional Details:

These positions require the candidate to work full-time onsite in Mossville, IL or Peoria, IL

Domestic relocation is available for candidates

10% travel is required for this role

Summary Pay Range:

$159,120.
