HR Generalist

People & Organizational HR Assistant (HR Assistant) Location: SW Portland, OR | Full-Time | Temporary/Temporary-to-Hire | Onsite Our client, a respected nonprofit organization, is seeking a detail‑oriented and people‑focused HR Assistant to join their Human Resources team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early‑career HR professional to build hands‑on experience across all aspects of the employee lifecycle while contributing to a mission‑driven organization. Reporting directly to the People & Organizational Culture Director, this role provides administrative and operational support in recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, employee relations, policy administration, and HR compliance. The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, customer‑service oriented, and passionate about creating a positive employee experience. Position Details Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 am‑4:30 pm, or 8 am‑4:30 pm (40 hours/week) Location: Southwest Portland (100% Onsite) Duration: Temporary with strong potential for permanent hire Compensation: $22.50 – $25.00 per hour, depending on experience Key Responsibilities Recruitment & Hiring Post and manage job openings across recruitment platforms Coordinate candidate interviews and scheduling Participate in interview processes as needed Conduct reference checks Maintain communication with candidates throughout the hiring process Onboarding & Offboarding Prepare offer letters, onboarding materials, and benefits packets Facilitate new hire orientation and onboarding activities Coordinate and conduct exit interviews Complete termination paperwork and offboarding checklists Human Resources Administration Maintain employee personnel files and HR records Update employee directories and contact information Process employment verification requests and unemployment claims Coordinate employee name tags, parking, and transit programs Perform HR data entry, tracking, and reporting functions Policy & Compliance Respond to employee questions regarding HR policies and procedures Assist with updates to the Employee Handbook and HR forms Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws Help maintain accurate HR documentation and records Qualifications Preferred Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered Required Skills & Experience Previous Human Resources, administrative, or office support experience Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities Strong customer‑service mindset and interpersonal skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel Excellent written and verbal communication skills Why Apply?
