Job Title: Mechanical Assembler
Job Description
This role involves assembling large window units and related components using mechanical skills, hand and power tools, and precise measurement. You will work in sub-assembly or general assembly to build, fit, seal, and finish products made from glass, sheet metal, and steel frames while maintaining high quality standards and meeting production goals.
Responsibilities
- Assemble window units and related components in sub-assembly or general assembly using hand and power tools.
- Install metal brackets, fasteners, clips, and other hardware onto window units with precision and care.
- Apply caulking using caulking guns to seal windows and fill gaps, ensuring proper sealing and adherence to quality standards.
- Perform testing on caulking products and seals to verify the integrity and performance of the assembled units.
- Paint the ends of materials as required and work with insulation materials such as large foam pads (not fiberglass) as part of the assembly process.
- Apply netting and wrapping around final units and perform continuous inspections throughout the process to identify and correct any flaws in assembly or final manufacturing.
- Handle and work around very large pieces of glass, sheet metal, and steel frames, assembling units that are typically waist high and up to approximately 30 feet long.
- Stand and walk for an 8-hour shift while performing assembly tasks, maintaining focus, accuracy, and safe work practices.
- Move between sub-assembly and other areas as needed based on workflow, assisting where required when units are in earlier production phases.
- Retrieve materials and participate in unit testing in outdoor yard areas and testing booths when needed.
- Read and interpret blueprints and use tape measures accurately to ensure correct measurements and proper fit of components.
- Perform fitting, fabrication, installation, and inspection tasks related to mechanical assembly and construction-style work.
- Troubleshoot assembly issues and contribute to quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure products meet specifications.
- Meet daily and overall production goals for assigned departments and assembly lines while maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Participate in cross-training across various areas of the production process and perform different tasks as needed without complaint.
- Follow instructions carefully, demonstrate strong listening skills, and respond positively to feedback from supervisors and peers.
- Work flexibly in any assigned area, including insulation areas using large foam pads, and wear protective garments such as Tyvek suits when required to keep dust off clothing.
- Support a team-oriented environment by collaborating with other assemblers and adapting to changing priorities and workflow demands.
- Comply with all safety procedures, especially when working around large glass panes, sheet metal, steel frames, and loud machinery.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a mechanical role, such as mechanical assembly, fabrication, fitting, construction, installation, inspection, troubleshooting, or construction management.
- 2–3 years of experience in a mechanical field, preferably in contractor-type roles.
- 1–2 years of experience using hand and power tools and a tape measure in an assembly or mechanical setting.
- 1–2 years of experience reading and working from blueprints.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in assembly, fitting, and mechanical work.
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools, including drills and other common mechanical tools.
- Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately; proficiency is mandatory.
- Experience in a manufacturing or construction environment, such as deck building, contracting, or large unit assembly.
- At least 6 months of experience in an assembly-type role with regular hand and power tool usage.
- Ability to perform quality assurance and quality control checks during and after assembly.
- Strong attention to detail and precision when working with large glass, sheet metal, and steel frame assemblies.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow detailed instructions.
- Flexibility to perform different tasks and work in various areas as needed.
- Positive attitude, strong listening skills, and a "can do" approach to work.
- Ability to accept feedback constructively and apply it, supported by strong references.
- Capability to stand and walk for an entire 8-hour shift in a busy manufacturing environment.
Why Work Here?
You will join a supportive, family-oriented culture where leadership actively gives back to employees and values their contributions. The role offers weekly pay and a comprehensive benefits package upon conversion to a permanent position, including a 401(k) plan with up to 5% employer match, employer-paid short- and long-term disability coverage with reimbursement of up to 70% of wages, and life insurance equivalent to annual pay plus an additional amount. You receive flex time off with 15 days of paid time off starting out and a minimum of 3 weeks after five years of service. A performance-based bonus plan tied to return on sales offers the potential for significant year-end bonuses. Multiple medical, dental, and vision plan options allow you to choose coverage that fits your needs, with competitive weekly contributions and the ability to select different deductible levels. Additional perks include a prescription safety glasses program and a voucher for new steel-toe boots each year. The environment emphasizes teamwork, cross-training, and long-term growth, offering a pathway from contract to permanent employment on high-profile projects.
Work Environment
This position is based in a busy, non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility with loud machinery and a high volume of assemblers working together. You will regularly work with very large pieces of glass, sheet metal, and steel frames, assembling large units that are typically waist high and can be approximately 30 feet long. The facility stores products both inside and outside, so material handling and some tasks may require working outdoors in the yard or at testing booths. The schedule typically runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with mandatory overtime when required, including potential weekday overtime and occasional Saturdays when a line or department is behind. The environment is highly team-oriented, with cross-training across multiple areas and frequent collaboration among assemblers. You will stand and walk for most of your shift and work around loud equipment, so appropriate hearing and eye protection is necessary. Some tasks involve working in insulation areas that use large foam pads; these materials are not home insulation and are described as non-irritant, and Tyvek suits may be worn to keep dust off clothing. The dress code focuses on safety, including the use of safety glasses and steel-toe boots, with programs available for prescription safety glasses and annual support for safety footwear.
