Neuro-Ophthalmology, Neuro-Ophthalmologist - Academic Faculty Position

The Department of Ophthalmology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, part of Advocate Healthone of the largest non-profit health systems in the United Statesis seeking a Neuro-Ophthalmologist to join our full-time academic faculty at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist . This position supports the departments mission of delivering exceptional patient care while advancing education, collaboration, and innovation within a growing academic health system.

• Provide specialized care for patients with complex visual disorders related to neurologic disease , including brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, stroke, and other disorders of the nervous system
\n
• Evaluate patients with unexplained vision loss, diplopia, visual field defects, and headaches
\n
• Collaborate closely with neurosurgery, neurology, otolaryngology, and other subspecialists across the institution
\n
• Serve as a consultant to referring physicians and provide direct patient care as part of multidisciplinary treatment teams
\n
• Teach and mentor ophthalmology residents, fellows, and medical students
\n
• Participate in clinical research and scholarly activity in a supportive academic environment
\n

• Full-time academic faculty position in a collegial and collaborative Department of Ophthalmology
\n
• Residency program with four residents per year and fellowships in Cornea & External Disease, Retina-Vitreous Disease, Glaucoma, Pediatric Ophthalmology, and Oculoplastics
\n
• Strong infrastructure and administrative support, including ophthalmic technicians and academic resources
\n
• Continued program growth with a new free-standing Eye Institute opening in 2026 , enhancing clinical care, education, and research
\n
• Serves as the academic core of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist within Advocate Health
\n

Faculty are actively engaged in graduate and postgraduate medical education , interdisciplinary collaboration, and clinical research. The department has a strong tradition of innovation, with access to clinical trials and advanced diagnostic tools commonly available at large academic medical centers.

• Medical Degree ( MD or DO )
\n
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited Ophthalmology or Neurology Residency
\n
• Fellowship training in Neuro-Ophthalmology
\n
• Board certification or board eligibility in Ophthalmology
\n
• Eligibility for medical licensure in North Carolina
\n
• Strong communication skills and a patient-centered, team-based approach to care
