Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough mental health assessments for senior clients, pinpointing specific emotional and psychological needs to enhance personalized care.
• Facilitate both individual and group counseling sessions that address the unique emotional challenges seniors experience, such as anxiety, depression, and adjustment issues related to aging.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to create and implement comprehensive care plans that optimize therapeutic outcomes for geriatric residents.
• Educate family members and support staff on methods to promote mental well-being, including effective communication and supportive intervention techniques.
• Provide grief and loss counseling for both residents and their families, assisting them in coping with end-of-life issues and related emotional complexities.
• Develop and implement cognitive stimulation programs and mental health interventions designed to maintain and improve mental acuity among elderly individuals.

Patient Population / Client Focus

This role focuses exclusively on the geriatric population, addressing their unique mental health needs with sensitivity and respect. You will work with clients who are navigating significant life transitions, including retirement, loss of loved ones, and chronic illness management.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution.
• Current and valid Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) certification.
• A minimum of 4 years of recent experience in counseling, specifically within geriatric mental health.
• Extensive knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic techniques for the elderly.
• Exceptional communication and active listening skills to establish rapport and trust with clients.
• Strong empathic skills, with a commitment to cultural sensitivity and tailored support for clients from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Experience

• Additional training or specialization in geriatric mental health and issues related to aging.

Compensation and Benefits
