Key Responsibilities

The selected Licensed Mental Health Counselor will engage in a variety of tasks vital to the mental and emotional support of our elderly client base, including:

• Conducting thorough mental health assessments for elderly residents to identify individualized care needs and therapeutic goals.
• Facilitating both individual and group counseling sessions aimed at addressing emotional and psychological challenges associated with aging and significant life changes.
• Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement comprehensive care plans tailored to the unique requirements of geriatric residents.
• Providing education and resources to families and staff on effective strategies to support the emotional well-being of older adults.
• Offering specialized grief and loss counseling for clients and their families, guiding them through complex end-of-life emotions and transitions.
• Designing and executing cognitive stimulation initiatives and mental health interventions aimed at enhancing cognitive function and emotional resilience in seniors.

Patient Population / Client Focus

Our primary focus is on the elderly, particularly those coping with age-related issues, loss of loved ones, and the emotions tied to significant life transitions. The LMHC will work with clients who often experience multiple mental health challenges and require a multifaceted approach to care that respects their unique life experiences and backgrounds.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

• A Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution or university.
• A valid license as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York.
• A minimum of 4 years of recent professional experience in geriatric counseling and mental health support.
• Training or specialization in geriatric mental health, with a focus on aging-related psychological issues.
• Proficient in evidence-based counseling interventions tailored for older adults.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively connect and engage with elderly clients and their families.

Preferred Experience

While the following are not mandatory, they are highly preferred:

• Experience in delivering telehealth services, utilizing digital tools for client sessions and documentation.
• Knowledge of ethical and legal standards specific to geriatric mental health counseling.
• Familiarity with group therapy methodologies and techniques for facilitating group sessions.

Compensation and Benefits
