- Ensure capital equipment decisions align with enterprise standards, approved technology strategies, supplier agreements, HealthTrust contracts, and organizational priorities
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures supporting transparent, disciplined, and consistent capital equipment decision-making across all facilities and service lines
Capital Planning, Prioritization, Budgeting, and Forecasting:
- Lead the annual and multi-year medical capital planning process across hospitals, ambulatory facilities, clinical service lines, and other care delivery locations
- Partner with Finance, executive leadership, Clinical Engineering, Facilities, Information Technology, and operational leaders to develop comprehensive capital budgets and forecasts
- Evaluate and prioritize capital requests using standardized clinical, operational, financial, technology, utilization, risk, and strategic criteria
- Facilitate enterprise capital prioritization processes and prepare recommendations for executive and capital governance committees
- Develop rolling capital forecasts that identify near-term and long-term equipment replacement, expansion, technology, and infrastructure requirements
- Analyze historical spending, equipment age, condition, utilization, maintenance history, service costs, and operational risk to support capital projections
- Identify opportunities to consolidate purchases, sequence investments, defer nonessential expenditures, and optimize the timing of capital commitments
- Monitor approved capital budgets, commitments, expenditures, implementation progress, and forecast variances
- Provide executive reporting on capital requirements, funding priorities, financial performance, risks, and emerging needs

- Lead or coordinate the assessment of new and emerging medical technologies in collaboration with physicians, clinicians, Value Analysis, Clinical Engineering, Information Technology, Finance, and operational stakeholders
- Establish a structured technology assessment methodology that considers clinical evidence, patient outcomes, safety, utilization, reimbursement, workflow impact, infrastructure requirements, interoperability, training, maintenance, cybersecurity, and financial implications
- Facilitate multidisciplinary reviews of new technology requests and develop objective recommendations for adoption, further evaluation, pilot testing, standardization, or deferral
- Evaluate the operational and financial impact of introducing new technologies, including downstream supply, staffing, facility, information systems, maintenance, and training requirements
- Support pilot programs and post-implementation reviews to determine whether new technology delivers anticipated clinical, operational, and financial outcomes
- Monitor healthcare technology trends, regulatory developments, reimbursement changes, and market innovation to inform long-term capital planning
- Balance access to innovation with organizational readiness, evidence-based decision-making, financial stewardship, and responsible technology adoption
Equipment Lifecycle Planning and Asset Optimization:
- Develop and maintain an enterprise medical equipment lifecycle management program covering planning, acquisition, deployment, maintenance, utilization, redeployment, replacement, and disposition
- Partner with Clinical Engineering and Service Providers to maintain accurate visibility into the health system’s medical equipment inventory, age, condition, service history, risk profile, maintenance requirements, and expected useful life
- Develop equipment replacement plans based on age, condition, utilization, obsolescence, supportability, safety risk, maintenance expense, and clinical requirements
- Analyze historical spending, equipment age, condition, utilization, maintenance history, service costs, and operational risk to support capital projections
- Identify opportunities to consolidate purchases, sequence investments, defer nonessential expenditures, and optimize the timing of capital commitments
Equipment Standardization and Strategic Acquisition:
- Lead enterprise equipment standardization initiatives in partnership with physicians, clinicians, Value Analysis, Clinical Engineering, Operations, and Strategic Sourcing
- Develop equipment specifications and enterprise standards that support clinical quality, operational consistency, staff competency, interoperability, maintenance efficiency, and financial value
- Identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary variation across manufacturers, models, configurations, accessories, and service arrangements
- Partner with Strategic Sourcing and Contracting to develop acquisition strategies, requests for proposal, competitive evaluations, negotiations, group buys, and leveraged purchasing opportunities
- Lead capital equipment committees, technology assessment meetings, planning sessions, supplier reviews, and executive presentations
