Reports to: Academy Park High School Principal. The Health & Physical Education Teacher level is responsible for planning and implementing physical education activities, monitoring students, and evaluating student outcomes. Physical Education in the elementary school generally emphasizes sports-related skills, movement patterns, games, and fitness activities. The teacher records and maintains student information and communicates with all parties involved in the education of the students. Duties & Responsibilities Work collaboratively with co-teachers, coaches, staff, and administration to plan and deliver an educational P.E. program in line with the district mission, vision, and values. Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing curriculum designated PDE and other appropriate learning activities. Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas. Provide appropriate safety instruction and perform safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure student safety. Evaluate academic and social growth of students, prepare report cards, and keep appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary. Maintain control of storage and use of school property. Manage the Physical Education materials, ensuring adequate supplies and safe working conditions of materials. Evaluate each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports. Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress. Supervise and support students’ social and emotional learning through sport and play. Support the building of a student play culture that values inclusivity, sportsmanship, and kindness. Administer testing in accordance with division testing practices. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Perform other duties assigned by the Building Administration. Required Skills & Abilities Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others. Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students, and patrons of the District. Ability to recognize that each person is a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage. Knowledge of PA Core Standards and Eligible Content. Ability to courageously lead conversations focused on equity, closing opportunity gaps, and equal access to technology-infused lessons of rigor. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff and administrators, students, parents or guardians, outside agencies, and the public, in a multi-ethnic, multicultural, multilingual environment. Ability to receive and implement feedback to improve practice and systems. Education & Experience Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education and/or Health and Wellness from an accredited college or university (required). Valid Pennsylvania Certification: Health & Physical Education PK-12 (required). Master's Degree in Education or a related field of study (desired). 2+ years of experience teaching in an education environment (desired). School Personnel Health Record and TB test. Physical Requirements Able to move and lift 25 lbs. Subject to outdoor weather conditions. Pushing, moving and lifting objects with a strength level of light work. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of standard office equipment. Clarity of vision at varying distances. Verbal, auditory and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner. Sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Frequent sitting, standing, and walking. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store files and supplies. Occasional kneeling, crouching and squatting. Occasional bending, reaching and stretching.
