Responsibilities

The Polysomnographic (PSG) Technologist provides comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic, and patient education services to support the evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. Working under the supervision of the Sleep Medicine Medical Director, the PSG technologist performs in-center and home sleep testing, administers and titrates sleep-related therapies, analyzes and scores sleep studies, and delivers patient-centered care that promotes positive clinical outcomes. The role also supports education and professional development by mentoring trainees, technicians, and students while contributing to quality improvement and operational excellence within the Sleep Disorders Center.

Completing the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) is required within 2 years of eligibility date.

A two-year commitment to the department is required.

Key Responsibilities would include:

• Conduct and monitor polysomnography and home sleep apnea testing (HSAT).
• Score and analyze sleep studies, including respiratory events, arousals, sleep staging, and movement disorders.
• Initiate, monitor, and titrate CPAP, BiPAP, oxygen, and implantable sleep therapy devices according to physician orders.
• Prepare patients for diagnostic and therapeutic sleep procedures and provide education on PAP and home testing equipment.
• Perform MSLT and MWT testing, complete documentation, prepare reports, and maintain data integrity.
• Troubleshoot, calibrate, and maintain sleep laboratory equipment.
• Support quality, safety, and patient experience initiatives while mentoring staff, trainees, and students.
• This position involves direct patient care in a dynamic healthcare setting and may include day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts. Candidates should be comfortable working with sleep diagnostic equipment, electronic health records, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree, with an Associate of Applied Science or Associate Degree in Neurophysiology preferred. 
• For employees hired before 1/01/2010, certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) with 10 years of clinical experience in a sleep medicine laboratory is allowed.
• Alertness, ability to adhere to policies and procedures, capable of making decisions, coping, and good communication skills. 
• The ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams to troubleshoot and problem solve is required. 
• Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification, credentialed through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT), within 2 years after becoming eligible to sit for the BRPT registration examination. 
• Establishing and maintaining Basic Life Support certification is required.

Schedule Details

Training hours will be approximately 1 - 2 months on each shift (days, evenings, nights). Once initial training is complete employee will have a regular night shift schedule. Starting schedule will be 3 10-hour shifts per week, and the schedule can change dependent on department needs.
