Key Responsibilities
This position completes an initial screen of the request to ensure patient eligibility, legibility of documentation, authorization requirements for requested service, etc. The screener position may assist with non-clinical prior authorization requests (e.g. dental, vision, auditory, inpatient rehab, substance use, hospice, etc.). This position works as a contact person for providers to ensure timely processing of prior authorization requests as well as answer questions or concerns the providers may have. Communicating via telephone or email with providers and/or members through outgoing and incoming phone calls and/or emails.

Key responsibilities and day to day responsibilities of this position:

• Screen prior authorizations for completeness of request, patient eligibility, etc.
• Assist in reviewing prior authorization services.
• Provide members and providers with information concerning rights, benefits, and services.
• Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and agency rules, and standards.
• Receives, researches, and responds to incoming questions or complaints; provides information, explains policy and procedure, and facilitates a resolution
• Decides upon need for additional information, and communicates with the provider to obtain information.
• Enters data into a computer system and retrieves, corrects, or deletes previously entered data.
• Communicating via telephone and/or email with providers and/or members.

• Effective July 1, 2021, State of Utah employees must either reside in Utah or be in the process of relocating to within 30 days of their start date.
• This position may currently be a hybrid of both in-office and remote work days. Please note, a position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion, at any time and for any reason.
• Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
• Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
