About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Centralized Registry Float - Med Surg (Medical Surgical) Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 7am - 7pm Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: IN License or Compact License Certifications: BLS through AHA Must-Have: Candidate must have at least 1.5 years of Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary experience. Candidate must have at least 1 year of MedSurg experience in a large hospital with more than 600 beds. Description: General Medical and surgical units accommodate a diverse population of patients with varying diagnoses. Chronic illnesses managed include COPD, Diabetes, CHF, and end-stage renal disease. GI issues such as pancreatitis, bleeding, and inflammatory bowel diseases are also treated. Infections managed range from pneumonia and cellulitis to sepsis and c-diff. Patients may have neurological issues including stroke, dementia, and traumatic brain injuries. Care is provided to patients with mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. Common procedures in the unit include colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries. General job duties include assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication. Utilization of the electronic health record is required, along with managing IV therapy and various medical equipment. Required equipment includes Epic electronic records, pyxis machines, blood glucose monitors, and IV pumps. Nurse staffing requires a patient ratio of 1:5-6. Shifts are 12 hours, with 3 weekend shifts in 4 weeks. Nursing staff may float to other medical units as needed. Dress code includes Caribbean blue scrubs. Training includes a general hospital orientation followed by nursing orientation, including Epic classes. Cancellation policy allows for up to 24 hours per 13 weeks. Charting system utilized is EPIC.
