Payroll Clerk

Kirby Building Systems LLC, a division of Nucor, is hiring a Payroll Specialist in Portland, Tennessee. This onsite role is responsible for managing end-to-end weekly payroll processing for more than 400 employees while ensuring accurate payroll tax reporting, compliance, and teammate support. The ideal candidate will have payroll processing experience, strong Excel skills, and expertise in payroll tax filings, compliance, and confidential employee support. Compensation & Benefits Medical, dental, vision, and disability insurance • 401(k) and Roth retirement plans • Profit sharing and pay-for-performance bonuses • Paid parental leave • Tuition reimbursement programs • Employee stock program • Scholarship opportunities • Career growth and advancement opportunities • Stable employment with a leading manufacturing organization Job Requirements Minimum 2 years of payroll processing experience supporting a medium-volume workforce • Experience processing weekly payroll tax payments and filing monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax returns • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, Index/Match, and Lookup functions • Knowledge of payroll tax compliance, reporting, and remittance procedures • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information professionally • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail • Ability to legally work in the United States without visa sponsorship • No relatives or household members currently employed by Kirby Building Systems • Multi-state payroll tax experience preferred • Experience with SAP Payroll, SuccessFactors, ATS, or other HRIS/payroll systems preferred • Previous Human Resources experience preferred • Strong communication and customer service skills to support employee payroll and HR inquiries Key Responsibilities Process weekly payroll accurately, including validations, adjustments, and approvals • Manage federal withholding tax, unemployment tax, and multi-state payroll tax payments and filings • Prepare and distribute weekly and monthly payroll reports for leadership teams • File payroll tax returns accurately and on time, including Forms 941, W-2, and W-3 • Administer voluntary and involuntary payroll deductions • Respond to teammate payroll, benefits, and HR-related questions professionally and confidentially • Maintain accurate physical and electronic payroll and personnel files • Support onboarding activities and provide backup support across HR functions • Assist with company-sponsored programs such as scholarships, service awards, and tuition reimbursement • Help monitor and implement payroll and HR-related legal or policy updates • Uphold company safety standards, ethical conduct, and confidentiality practices at all times About Kirby Building Systems LLC Kirby Building Systems LLC is part of Nucor, North America’s largest steel and steel products manufacturer and the continent’s largest recycler.
