Respiratory Therapist (RRT), Pediatrics Full-Time Nights $20,000 Sign On Bonus, New Market Rates and Tuition Reimbursement We’re hiring a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for the Respiratory Care Services department for a Full‑Time night shift with the Pediatric team at the University of Chicago Medicine’s main campus in Hyde Park, Chicago, IL. The Respiratory Care Services Department is committed to providing quality individualized care for adult, pediatric and neonatal patients through highly trained RRTs, advanced technology and defined patient protocols. Job Summary In this role, the RRT administers respiratory care treatments, procedures, and protocols under the direct supervision of department leadership and physicians for the pediatric department. Responsibilities include patient assessment, respiratory status monitoring, and implementation of appropriate care protocols. Essential Job Functions Administers supplemental oxygen/medical gas therapy per physician order or departmental protocols and documents accurately in the EPIC electronic medical record. Administers intermittent or continuous medication delivery therapy (bronchodilators, steroids, mucolytics, etc.), documents in EPIC, and assesses patients during procedure. Administers bronchopulmonary hygiene, suctioning, and airway care; implements airway clearance techniques (Chest Physiotherapy, coughing/deep breathing, therapy vest, Flutter valve, ExPap device, Acapella device, incentive spirometry) per physician order or protocols, and documents procedures. Initiates and maintains non‑invasive ventilation procedures (BIPAP, CPAP, High Flow Cannula), monitors patient status and equipment, adjusts settings for comfort and efficacy, and documents in EPIC. Initiates, maintains, and checks status of mechanical ventilation; performs weaning assessments and implements weaning plans per policy or physician order; documents procedures accurately and timely. Provides ventilator management (NIV and mechanical ventilation) and reports hemodynamic parameters; documents information accurately and timely in EPIC. Performs arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis, troubleshoots ABG analyzers, conducts quality control, calibrates equipment, and reports results within turnaround guidelines. Provides patient transport within the facility, coordinating oxygen delivery and mechanical ventilator support. Required Qualifications Graduate of an approved and accredited Respiratory Care Program (at least two years in duration). Diploma or Certificate of Completion and Associate’s Degree from an accredited academic body. Demonstrates effective and accurate communication and documentation skills. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Licensed by the State of Illinois as a Respiratory Care Practitioner. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association). Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification; PALS or ACLS certification preferred, depending on patient population.
