Position Overview

San Diego Ice Company and California Ice are seeking a dependable, organized, and highly communicative Dispatcher to coordinate daily delivery operations between our drivers and customers.

The Dispatcher serves as a central point of contact throughout the day, ensuring drivers have the information and support they need to complete their routes while keeping customers informed of delivery status, schedule changes, and service needs.

This is a fast-paced position that requires someone who can manage multiple priorities at once, communicate professionally, solve problems quickly, and maintain control of the operation when plans change.

Key Responsibilities

Driver & Dispatch Coordination

• Serve as a primary point of contact for drivers throughout the day
• Monitor active routes and delivery progress
• Communicate route assignments, delivery instructions, customer requests, and schedule changes to drivers
• Coordinate driver, truck, and route assignments as operational needs change
• Respond to driver questions and resolve delivery issues in real time
• Coordinate additional or emergency deliveries when necessary
• Work with drivers to ensure scheduled deliveries are completed accurately and on time
• Communicate delays, breakdowns, call-outs, or other disruptions to management
• Use routing, GPS, and fleet-management systems to monitor daily operations

Customer Communication

• Communicate directly with customers regarding deliveries, ETAs, order changes, and service issues
• Answer incoming calls related to deliveries and customer service
• Provide professional and timely updates when deliveries are delayed or schedules change
• Coordinate same-day and unscheduled delivery requests with the operations team
• Resolve routine customer concerns and escalate larger issues when necessary
• Maintain a high level of customer service while balancing operational limitations

Operations Support

• Maintain an accurate view of the daily delivery schedule and outstanding deliveries
• Coordinate with production and warehouse teams to ensure orders are ready for drivers
• Update delivery schedules, route information, and internal systems throughout the day
• Document delivery issues, customer requests, and important driver communications
• Assist with planning the following day's routes and outstanding orders
• Provide an effective handoff of unresolved issues at the end of the shift

• Attention to detail and ability to follow through on open issues
• Comfortable using computers, spreadsheets, GPS systems, and dispatching software
• Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with management
• Dependable attendance and punctuality

Preferred Experience

• Previous dispatching experience
• Transportation, logistics, delivery, or route-management experience
• Customer service or call-center experience
• Experience coordinating multiple drivers or field employees
• Experience with Samsara, Routeman, or similar routing/fleet-management platforms
• Familiarity with commercial delivery operations is a plus

Schedule & Availability

This is a full-time, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM position . Dependable attendance for the entire scheduled shift is essential because this position is responsible for maintaining continuity between drivers, customers, and operations throughout the day.

Weekend availability is required , particularly during peak season and high-demand periods. Overtime may also be required based on business and operational needs.

Success in This Role

A successful Dispatcher doesn't simply answer phones and pass along messages. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of the day's operation —knows where the drivers are, understands which deliveries are still outstanding, communicates proactively with customers, identifies problems before they become larger issues, and follows each situation through to resolution.
