Senior Editorial Producer (Contract)
Bully Pulpit International
Remote with Required On-Site Presence in Los Angeles (April 4th - 6th, 2026) Bully Pulpit International is an outcomes agency made up of strategists, data scientists, and artists. We come from politics, brands, and government and we communicate without barriers and measure what matters. We have more than 400 team members in six countries and thirteen offices — Berlin, Brussels, Chicago, D.C., London, Los Angeles, New York, Oslo, San Francisco, and Zürich. We apply our unique expertise across strategic communications, public affairs, research, and digital marketing to create sophisticated and customized strategies that make change possible for both American and European clients. About the Convening: A Day of Unreasonable Conversation (UC) is an invitation-only annual summit which serves as a trusted, curated space designed to foster honest, nuanced, and critical discourse on the most urgent issues of our time. The gathering bridges the gap between the entertainment industry and social impact sectors. It connects "culture shapers"—influential television writers, showrunners, producers, executives, and digital storytellers who are literally writing the script for the world—with frontline changemakers, advocates, philanthropists, and issue experts. The core mission of UC is to "unlock progress through the power of stories". In a deeply polarized moment where trust in traditional media is at a record low, the event aims to spark writers' rooms with new ideas and give creators the tools to drive meaningful change. UC challenges storytellers to complicate the narrative by moving beyond flat tropes and oversimplified binaries to explore the systemic complexities of our time. Ultimately, the goal is to bring greater nuance, empathy, and truth to the stories that shape public perception. UC is grounded in the belief that culture is the multiplier for change at scale. Because culture sits upstream of policy and politics, it is where people already are. Even in times of deep fracture when people stop listening to experts or political parties, they still listen to stories. By bringing storytellers and problem-solvers together, UC seeks to turn stage-side insights into long-term creative collaborations that shift culture on screen and beyond. A Day of Unreasonable Conversation is founded and produced by the social impact agency Propper Daley x Bully Pulpit International (BPI). The event relies on cross-sector collaboration and is fully funded by philanthropy. We are hiring a Senior Editorial Producer for a temporary position starting mid-September - April, 2026 to own the UC program end‑to‑end—from initial concept and show pitch through getting talent on stage and delivering a cohesive, spacious day of conversations. You will work closely with the Executive Director, editorial team, talent/booking producer and scriptwriter. Together, you will design the editorial frame, shape the segment universe, drive talent strategy, and ensure that “what we talk about, who talks, and how it all fits together” feels essential, honest, and uniquely Unreasonable. This is not a traditional conference‑panel role. We’re looking for someone who can think beyond standard summit formats and design conversations that feel fresh, deeply considered, and genuinely useful to creators and decision‑makers. What You’ll Do Own the full editorial lifecycle for A Day of Unreasonable Conversation. Lead theme development, scripting, briefing, live editorial presence, and post-event wrap so the program feels cohesive and intentional end to end. Build lists of potential speakers, moderators, and facilitators for all sessions, collaborating with the Senior Producer, Executive Producer, and Talent Lead to develop speaker lists, so each segment has a clear, prioritized talent plan Partner with the talent team to craft compelling, editorially grounded ask letters that translate the segment's thesis and stakes into language sharp enough to move top-tier talent to say yes. Research, reach out to, and book lived-experience and issue-expert voices. With the Executive Director and editorial team, research and identify strong candidates, contact and secure issue experts and lived-experience storytellers for the program, thoughtfully integrate them once booked, and maintain those relationships across convenings so the event is grounded and not limited to celebrity talent. Develop segments and briefing packets end to end. Shape segment concepts, write intros and questions, design flow and transitions, and ensure each segment has a clear thesis, narrative arc, and defined role in the day. Attend regular meetings with editorial, talent, and production teams, including sessions to ideate on panel and speaker topics, align on progress, surface blockers, and keep the program moving cohesively across workstreams. Design non-default formats. Create nuanced guest segments, including lightning talks, firesides, interviews, and select panels, that complicate the narrative and bridge culture shapers with frontline voices, rather than relying on standard conference panels. Build trusted relationships with talent and speakers. Serve as the editorial lead for guests from the initial pitch through segment shaping, prep, and on-stage delivery. Tailor your approach to each guest's experience level, keep them fully aligned and updated as the segment evolves, and provide a high-touch level of support that makes them feel prepared, protected, and fully set up for success through the entire process. Respond to talent and their teams within 24 hours, even if just to confirm receipt and set expectations on next steps, so guests never feel dropped or deprioritized during the process. Maintain clear editorial systems. Work with the Executive Director to update trackers for segments, Moonshot and tiered speaker lists, issue lanes, and approvals, ensuring a predictable path from idea to booked segment to final run-of-show. Adhere to editorial pipeline timelines and milestones, including tracker cadences, briefing book lock targets, and sign-off checkpoints, so segments move predictably from idea to booked to final run-of-show without slipping deadlines. Collaborate with fundraising and partner teams to design sponsored segments that stay within agreed budget parameters, keep stakeholders happy, find creative ways to showcase funders on-stage and in the program, and still maintain the integrity of the overall editorial vision; lead structured check-ins so expectations stay aligned with the evolving slate. Lead scripting and briefing with the scriptwriter. Co‑own the master script, segment questions, transitions, and tone; create briefing books; and run pre‑interviews and prep calls with moderators and speakers to align on roles, guardrails, and key beats. Lead prep calls and other key touchpoints with talent and moderators as needed throughout the process, building in additional check‑ins wherever a guest's segment, sensitivities, or format require extra alignment. Make segments visually compelling. Partner with production and creative teams to bring conversations to life through slides, sizzle reels, archival clips, on‑screen graphics, and other multimedia elements that deepen the editorial experience and support the flow of the show. Partner closely with production to deliver multimedia for the show. Work hand in hand with production leads on timelines, technical needs, and show flow, including attending key technical rehearsals, so editorial ideas are translated cleanly into the live experience. Uphold editorial standards and safeguards. Ensure sensitive topics are handled with care, secure necessary appearance releases and rights clearances for recorded or archival content, and flag legal or reputational risks early in partnership with the Executive Producer. Develop titles, descriptions, and copy for attendee‑facing collateral (i.e., website, program), ensuring segment and speaker copy teases the editorial vision and reads clearly for attendees. Build comprehensive speaker packets for each segment that outline the full conversation, including moderator intros, questions, format, and role details, so guests understand the full flow of the segment and feel prepared well before arriving on‑site. This role is project‑based; while it won't require full‑time hours throughout, expect an intensive, close‑to‑full‑time cadence from January through April 6th. Must be able to be on‑site in LA at the venue for 3 days for event pre‑production and the event itself (April 4th, 5th, and 6th). Serve as senior editorial presence on site for event. Meet talent and moderators, walk guests through the structure of their on‑stage moments, address last‑minute questions or flow revisions, review slides/prompter notes, and ensure the editorial vision is upheld in real time. Lead post‑event editorial reporting. Synthesize segment performance, audience response, and stakeholder feedback into clear takeaways, share editorial impact with leadership and funders, and translate learnings into themes, formats, and booking priorities for the next convening. What You Bring 8-10+ years in editorial production, live events, television, summits, or festivals, with clear examples of owning programming end to end. Proven experience working directly with A‑list and high‑profile talent, including complex asks, sensitive stakeholders, and relationship‑driven bookings. Ability to design and deliver formats that move beyond standard panels, including TED‑style talks, fireside chats, and structured multi‑voice conversations. Strong editorial judgment and story sense; you know how to find real tension, structure conversations around it, and craft questions that feel sharp and nuanced. Comfort in high‑pressure event environments, including juggling multiple workstreams, working from trackers and run‑of‑shows, and partnering closely with production, logistics, and vendors on timelines and budgets. Sound judgment on sensitive editorial and compliance matters, including handling rights, releases, and reputational risk with care. Excellent stakeholder management and diplomacy; able to balance input from leadership, partners, talent teams, and funders while holding a clear editorial point of view. High degree of organization and systems thinking; you build simple pipelines and keep them updated so work progresses without chaos. Strong written and verbal communication skills for briefs, invitations, notes, and live collaboration. Comfortable working in intensive pre‑event periods. The weeks leading into the convening and the event day itself require your full presence; extended vacations or time away … #J-18808-Ljbffr Bully Pulpit International
