Responsibilities Perform thorough cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment following established protocols. Inspect instruments and equipment for functionality and cleanliness, ensuring all items meet quality and safety standards before use. Assemble sterile trays and packages according to surgical and procedural specifications, maintaining accurate documentation of sterilization cycles. Operate and maintain sterilization equipment such as autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners, performing routine checks and reporting malfunctions. Collaborate with clinical staff to manage inventory levels of sterile supplies and respond promptly to urgent requests during surgical procedures. Adhere strictly to infection control policies, safety regulations, and compliance standards set by healthcare authorities. Maintain a clean and organized work environment to support efficient workflow and minimize contamination risks. Skills The required skills enable the technician to meticulously clean and sterilize instruments, ensuring patient safety by preventing infections. Attention to detail is critical when inspecting instruments and assembling sterile trays to meet precise surgical requirements. Minimum Qualifications Completion of a Sterile Processing Technician training program or equivalent experience in sterile processing. Basic knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control, and medical terminology. Ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols accurately. Physical ability to stand for extended periods and handle medical instruments safely. Preferred Qualifications Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or equivalent. Previous experience working in a hospital sterile processing department. Strong understanding of regulatory standards such as those from the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).
