SCHOOL CUSTODIAN


REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities
START DATE: TBD


QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to clearly communicate with all students, parents, staff and community
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
• Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
• Mandatory overtime when needed

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILTIES

• Responds to requests from Director of Facilities and/or school administration as needed throughout the day
• Cleans and monitors designated spaces and equipment in the building, including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping and waxing floors; rubbish removal
• Cleans and disinfects bathroom sinks, toilets and urinals, mirrors
• Check hand soap, paper towel, & tissue supplies and keep stocked
• Cleans classroom sinks/faucets
• Replaces light bulbs as needed
• Unlocks and locks premises, secures windows and activates/deactivates the alarm systems
• Cleans and maintains custodial equipment daily after each use
• Helps in unloading of freight as needed with delivery to specified areas
• Moves classroom furniture as needed
• Performs basic maintenance as needed
• Performs painting work as needed
• Assists with snow removal/de-icing as needed
• Performs other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Frequent walking, bending, twisting and lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs. such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks
• Continuous use of hand strength to grasp tools and cleaning equipment and climb on ladders
• Push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, and/or cleaning equipment

COMPENSATION AND HOURS
As set by the collective bargaining contract between the Ansonia Board of Education and Teamsters Custodial and Maintenance.
