Our client, a respected nonprofit organization, is seeking a Director of Finance & Administration to provide strategic financial management, fiscal oversight, and administrative leadership for the organization. This position is responsible for leading budgeting, accounting, grant management, audits, cash flow, compliance, internal controls, and financial reporting, while directly supervising the Fiscal Director and Assistant Bookkeeper. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director partners closely with the CEO to ensure financial sustainability, operational excellence, and long-term growth across a multi-million-dollar operating budget supported by federal, state, county, city, and private funding sources. Responsibilities:

• Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO on all financial and administrative matters, and participate as a member of the Senior Leadership Team
• Lead the annual organizational budgeting process and develop multi-year financial forecasts and sustainability plans
• Prepare financial reports and analyses for the CEO, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors, and recommend financial policies and best practices
• Provide leadership and oversight of all accounting operations, including the general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and monthly financial statements
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards, and maintain strong internal controls
• Oversee all fiscal aspects of government and private grants and contracts, including grant budget development, reimbursement requests, cost allocation plans, indirect cost calculations, compliance monitoring, and closeout
• Provide financial oversight of capital projects, including construction budgets, capital grants, real estate acquisitions, bridge financing, capital campaign accounting, and debt management
• Lead the organization's financial compliance activities, including the annual independent audit, IRS Form 990, Uniform Guidance compliance, and New York State Charities Bureau filings
• Coordinate with external auditors, accountants, banks, and financial consultants
• Directly supervise the Fiscal Director and Assistant Bookkeeper, including recruitment, coaching, performance evaluations, and succession planning
• Manage banking relationships, cash flow, liquidity, investments, reserves, and organizational debt
• Provide leadership for administrative systems including procurement, contract administration, vendor management, insurance coordination, and financial technology systems
• Prepare monthly financial reports and dashboards, and present financial information to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors
• Provide financial data to support grant proposals and fundraising initiatives

 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible financial management experience, including at least three (3) years of supervisory experience
• Experience managing nonprofit accounting and multiple funding sources, with knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
• Experience with budgeting, audits, financial reporting, and grant compliance
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software
• CPA, MBA, or Master's degree in a related field preferred
• Seven (7) or more years of nonprofit financial leadership experience preferred
• Experience managing nonprofit budgets exceeding $3 million preferred
• Experience with federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) and New York State contracts and grant administration preferred
• Experience with capital projects, construction financing, or real estate transactions preferred
• Experience with nonprofit accounting software such as Sage Intacct, MIP Fund Accounting, or QuickBooks Enterprise preferred
• Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills, with excellent written and verbal communication
• High degree of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality

Salary: $82,500 – $90,000 annually, plus benefits and retirement plan
