The community based counselor is skilled in delivery of Meso practice - delivering services that encompass a continuum from education and prevention to mental health consultation and intervention within the Rutgers New Brunswick community. Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Assesses community needs and delivers community based prevention, education, postvention, workshops, and consultation for faculty/staff consistent with community based needs.
  • Conducts surveys of faculty staff and students to assist with evaluating the utility, scope and outcomes associated with delivery of embedded "meso practice" services.
  • Designs relevant programs to meet community based needs.
  • Works with HOPE and RSH Marketing to advertise availability of services and programs.
  • Meets with student groups and relevant campus stakeholders to develop constructive context for referrals, and to develop community awareness of availability of services.
  • Offers supportive, creative, educational, data/driven evidence based programs consistent with prevention, education and postvention needs of the community.
  • Works with other campus partners to develop appropriate responses to critical events on campus. Gathers data, including survey and outcome data, and provides ongoing feedback and reports to RSH/CAPS Quality committee for review to inform program development.
  • Offers mental health support for students in designated departments/locations across campus. Cultivates and encourages referrals from faculty staff and students.
  • Offers clinical care including initial consultations, guidance and support, problem focused mental health treatment, consultation, and linkages to other campus partners and other community services.
  • Cultivates campus and community based resources and updates CAPS referral database. Participates on the after hours on call and critical event support team as needed.
