Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Clinical Social Worker for the Counseling, Alcohol and Other Drug Assistance Program & Psychiatric Services within Rutgers Student Health. Reporting to the Associate Director for Community Based Services or designee, the community based counselor functions as a "Meso practitioner" and is responsible for coordinating assessment, collaborative partnerships, community based prevention and offering clinical care as needed for Rutgers New Brunswick students in designated campus departments/areas where students live and learn. The community based counselor is skilled in delivery of Meso practice - delivering services that encompass a continuum from education and prevention to mental health consultation and intervention within the Rutgers New Brunswick community. Community based counselors are available in areas where students might naturally have an opportunity to access support, consultation and workshops thereby decreasing the stigma that may be associated with visiting a mental healthcare clinic in University environment. - Assesses community needs and delivers community based prevention, education, postvention, workshops, and consultation for faculty/staff consistent with community based needs.
- Conducts surveys of faculty staff and students to assist with evaluating the utility, scope and outcomes associated with delivery of embedded "meso practice" services.
- Designs relevant programs to meet community based needs.
- Works with HOPE and RSH Marketing to advertise availability of services and programs.
- Meets with student groups and relevant campus stakeholders to develop constructive context for referrals, and to develop community awareness of availability of services.
- Offers supportive, creative, educational, data/driven evidence based programs consistent with prevention, education and postvention needs of the community.
- Works with other campus partners to develop appropriate responses to critical events on campus. Gathers data, including survey and outcome data, and provides ongoing feedback and reports to RSH/CAPS Quality committee for review to inform program development.
- Offers mental health support for students in designated departments/locations across campus. Cultivates and encourages referrals from faculty staff and students.
- Offers clinical care including initial consultations, guidance and support, problem focused mental health treatment, consultation, and linkages to other campus partners and other community services.
- Cultivates campus and community based resources and updates CAPS referral database. Participates on the after hours on call and critical event support team as needed.
- Collaborates with and supports the learning of social work trainees in delivery of community based services.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Master of Social Work or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and at least three years of full-time clinical experience, or equivalent.
- New Jersey Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
- Interest/experience with evidence based, culture-centered, structured treatments for common concerns for University students including: Depression, anxiety, affective dysregulation, substance abuse and eating difficulties, etc.
- Familiarity with developmental issues of college students.
- Demonstrated sensitivity and skill in working with diverse students, staff and faculty.
- Adept in assessing suicide risk and developing appropriate dispositions and safety plans.
- Skilled in appreciating the needs of our students who are diverse in many ways-including but not limited to diversity in race/ethnicity, culture, gender, sexuality, disability status, socioeconomic status, educational values, faith and religion.
- Knowledge and understanding of collaborative and hierarchical elements of communication in a healthcare environment.
- Commitment to and understanding of the mission of the CAPS service in relation to the broader University community.
- Ability to initiate positive change.
- Ability to plan effectively, manage ambiguity and assist with handling problem areas pro-actively.
- Ability to demonstrate a strong work ethic.
- Ability to maintain and demonstrate a positive attitude and assume accountability.
- Ability to understand and manage confidential communication and information appropriately.
- Committed to continuous improvement of processes, programs and services.
- Bilingual - Spanish/English Speaking.
- Specialized expertise and/or experience in working with Students of Color, the LGBTQ community, first generation or other marginalized populations.
- Established interest and experience in working with students identifying as Black/African American or Asian.
- Knowledge and understanding of program development, program evaluation, marketing and consultation about mental health concerns with non-mental health professionals.
- Experience with team building, and conflict resolution.
- Training and/or experience with threat assessment and threat management theory and training in the management of significantly threatening cases in a higher education environment.
- Ability and credentials necessary to supervise the work of trainees in the field of social work
- A valid driver's license is helpful as it may be necessary to travel among Rutgers New Brunswick campuses on occasion.
- Demonstrated commitment to student-centered practices anchored in social justice with a focus on equity for students belonging to historically marginalized and underrepresented groups.
- Commitment to dismantling systems and policies that foster systems of inequity and injustice in a clinical setting.
- Routine office software (e.g. Microsoft Office 365: Word, Excel), Medicat Electronic Health Record.
- Extensive sitting.
