The Staff Member Plans, Organizes And Implements Occupational Therapy Programs On Patients Based On Evaluative Findings. The Scope Of Patient Care Includes Neurological, Geriatric, General Orthopedic, General Acute Medical And Surgical, Sports Medicine And Industrial Patients With Diverse Cultural Backgrounds And Varied Age Groups Patient Settings Outpatient (school age children: 6-12 years; adolescent: 13-17 years; adults: 18-65 years; geriatrics: 65 years and older) Inpatient (adults: 18-65 years; geriatrics: 65 years and older) Collaborative Care The staff member demonstrates the ability to collaborate with the interdisciplinary health team in providing patient care services. The staff member may work on the inpatient and/or outpatient setting. Administrative Duties Clearly and concisely documents appropriate information in a neat and timely manner. Retains responsibility for tracking patients' insurances and provides accurate comprehensive documentation to ensure uninterrupted OT services. Accurately completes insurance certifications and recertifications in a timely manner. Communicates clearly and effectively with patients, family members/support persons, physicians/non-physician providers, supervisors, and staff members regarding patient treatment and department functioning both verbally and in writing. Adheres to cancellation/participation policy, explaining it to patients and physicians in a diplomatic manner. Consistently meets productivity standards and completes productivity data as requested. Patient Care Demonstrates knowledge and skills appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Conducts thorough and objective evaluations on all patients using professionally accepted techniques. Establishes pertinent functional short- and long-term goals based on the evaluative findings; realistic time frames; effective treatment plans; realistic frequency of treatment. Adjusts treatment program as needed to meet stated goals. Reevaluates patients as required and per department policy. Instructs patients and their families/support persons and assesses the effectiveness of education. Administers all evaluations, procedures and modalities in a safe manner according to department policies and procedures. Uses safe work habits and appropriate patient/material handling equipment and body mechanics. Personnel Management Provides adequate training and supervision to support personnel. Establishes appropriate priorities for patient caseload. Delegates aspects of patient care to appropriate support personnel. Assists Director of Rehabilitation Services in developing performance appraisals for support personnel and peers. Acts as clinical instructor for OT/COTA affiliating students. Equipment and Space Promptly informs supervisor of observable hazards and takes appropriate action. Documents and addresses equipment problems per hospital policy. Fiscal Responsibilities Meets productivity standards 100% of the time for the assigned rotation. Accurately completes time sheets each day. Accurately bills for daily treatment and submits bills in a timely manner. Accurately bills for medical supplies and submits bills in a timely manner. Education and Development Maintains competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) for the patient population served. Participates in appropriate hospital and department in-service and education programs. Maintains current education and awareness of technical and professional changes. Seeks to develop new skills and credentials. Provides suggestion on in-service topics to improve staff skills. Attends seminars or other educational opportunities. Monitors progress with supervisor and establishes yearly goals. Presents to peers formally and informally during the year. Program Development Identifies need for change in policies, procedures, staffing and equipment and notifies supervisor. Identifies need for new programs and discusses with supervisor. Quality Management / Performance Improvement Obtains and compiles data from peer review. Assists in identifying appropriate indicators for the department’s Quality Management/Performance Improvement Program. Initiates corrective action when problems are identified. Additional Responsibilities Performs all duties in accordance with safety and laws, regulations, and department and hospital policies. May be required to perform similar or related duties on an emergency, temporary or limited basis. All job functions are subject to change at the discretion of hospital administration. Undergoes universal precautions for infection control and may be exposed to blood and body fluids. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited BS, MS, or Doctoral program in Occupational Therapy. Current licensure by the Division of Registration of Allied Health Professionals in MA. Current CPR certification.
