Job Overview At CVS Health, District Support Pharmacists (DSPs) play a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence within each pharmacy. DSPs serve as role models, help cover pharmacist scheduling gaps, support pharmacy teams, and maintain safe, accurate prescription fulfillment and patient care across the district. Responsibilities Travel the district to fill pharmacist shifts as scheduled and oversee pharmacy operations while the Pharmacy Manager is absent. Ensure safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by directing the pharmacy team to follow workflow procedures and safety guardrails at every workstation. Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties during bench shifts or as the only pharmacist‑on‑duty. Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy, coaching the team, and collaborating with the patient’s healthcare team to resolve insurance or medication issues. Offer and deliver immunizations, supporting Pharmacy Technicians in learning to immunize. Manage pharmacy inventory efficiently, guiding the team on best practices and safeguarding cold chain products. Maintain flexibility for scheduling and business needs, while fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic. Keep clinical and technical skills current through required trainings, continuing medical education, and other learning opportunities. Support patient access and outcomes through pharmacist‑delivered clinical care services such as testing and prescribing services, where permitted. Comply with all federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, and CVS Health policies to ensure patient safety and confidentiality. Essential Functions Travel within a reasonable radius to support market staffing as business needs require. Maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends. Complete required training within the designated timeframe. Maintain attention and focus, concentrating on tasks for extended periods and pivoting quickly between tasks. Confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety. Show friendliness and a willingness to help people in a supportive manner. Utilize effective verbal and written communication, active listening, and appropriate questioning techniques. Apply mathematical reasoning to determine quantity of medication dispensed. Resolve challenging patient or colleague interactions by selecting the best course of action. Carry out physical demands such as lifting, scanning, reaching, and repetitive finger movements as described in the Physical Demands section. Physical Demands Be mobile and remain upright for extended periods. Lifting up to 20 lbs, frequently 10 lbs, and at times negligible force. Scan, bag, and transport items; reach overhead and stretch across body and arms. Use fingers repetitively for picking, pinching, typing, or other fine‑motor tasks. Stoop, bend, and move items between low and high positions, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles. Maintain visual acuity for tasks such as transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, reading, and inspection involving small parts. Control precision and quickly adjust machinery to exact positions. Express or exchange ideas verbally, ensuring details are conveyed accurately. Receive detailed information through oral communication. Perform any additional tasks directed by a supervisor or manager. Required Qualifications Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located. Active National Provider Identifier (NPI). Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list. Preferred Qualifications 1–2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
