HR / Payroll Specialist

Legacybox is looking for an HR / Payroll Specialist to support the daily operations of our People team through payroll administration, onboarding, recruiting coordination, compliance, and employee support. This is a highly detail-oriented role that helps ensure our employees are paid accurately, onboarded successfully, and supported throughout their experience at Legacybox. Schedule Monday - Friday Hours Typically 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (+/- 1 hour based on business needs) Work Environment In-person, Chattanooga facility Perks of Joining Legacybox Healthcare coverage (medical, dental, and vision) Retirement plan with employer match Paid maternity and paternity leave Professional development and advancement opportunities Employee appreciation events, recognition programs, and team initiatives Unlimited free coffee and a collaborative, supportive culture Responsibilities of the HR / Payroll Specialist Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time Review and audit time clock entries, missed punches, and pay code accuracy Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and wage regulations Support recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding processes Coordinate background checks, employment verification, and onboarding documentation Assist with employee relations matters, investigations, disciplinary meetings, and terminations as needed Maintain HRIS records and employee documentation with a high level of confidentiality Support benefits administration, insurance reconciliation, and employee communications regarding benefits Assist with training initiatives, performance evaluation processes, and employee development programs Help maintain policies, procedures, and employee handbook updates Compile reports and documentation related to OSHA, workers’ compensation, unemployment claims, and compliance requirements Partner with managers to support staffing needs, retention efforts, and organizational initiatives Be available for employee-relations traffic and general team member support What a Typical Day Looks Like Review payroll and timekeeping information for accuracy (punches, time off requests) Communicate with managers regarding attendance, approvals, or payroll corrections Assist candidates and new hires through onboarding and hiring processes Respond to employee questions related to payroll, benefits, or HR policies Maintain employee records and process HR documentation Participate in meetings related to staffing, employee support, or compliance initiatives Support the day-to-day operations of the HR department while balancing multiple priorities You’ll Likely Do Well in This Role If You’ve Previously Worked in payroll, HR, recruiting, or administrative operations Managed confidential information with professionalism and accuracy Used HRIS, payroll, or employee management systems (ADP, Rippling preferred) Worked in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities Balanced detailed administrative work with employee-facing communication Interpreted or applied policies and procedures consistently You’ll Enjoy This Role If You Like Staying organized and detail-focused Helping employees solve problems and navigate processes Balancing administrative work with people interaction Working closely with leadership and operations teams Managing multiple priorities and keeping processes moving Being part of a growing and evolving organization Who You Are Strong verbal and written communication skills Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times Comfortable navigating employee conversations with empathy and accountability Knowledge of employment laws, payroll practices, and HR processes preferred Experience with payroll systems and HR software required Education & Experience Minimum of 2 years of payroll and/or HR operations experience preferred Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar certification is a plus Who is Legacybox Legacybox has helped over 1 million families digitally preserve their home movies, photos, and film.
