Job Description
Assists Veterans with bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding, dressing, ambulation, positioning, and other activities of daily living.
Obtains and documents vital signs, intake and output, weights, and changes in condition.
Assists with admissions, transfers, discharges, postmortem care, and unit-specific nursing procedures.
Performs finger-stick blood glucose testing, bedside EKGs, Foley catheter care, and bowel care within established scope.
Assists with meals while following aspiration precautions and special dietary requirements.
Transfers and transports Veterans using wheelchairs, gurneys, and other assistive equipment.
Supports rehabilitation activities, including range-of-motion exercises and speech retraining.
Follows infection-control, safety, suicide-prevention, and close-observation procedures.
Recognizes urgent or abnormal conditions and promptly reports them to the appropriate nurse using SBAR.
Documents care accurately in the medical record.
Promotes each Veteran's dignity, independence, comfort, and overall well-being.
Works collaboratively with nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
At the GS-5 level, may assist with orienting and precepting newly assigned Nursing Assistants.
