Job Title Cardiovascular Sonographer (Full‑time, Days) Location BLH Bronson LakeView Hospital, BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital Responsibilities Under general supervision and according to established procedures, conduct echocardiograms producing two‑dimensional ultrasonic recordings and Doppler flow analyses of heart and related structures for use by physicians in diagnosis of heart and peripheral vascular disease. Perform transesophageal echo, stress echo, and transthoracic echocardiograms on patients of all ages in critical and non‑critical settings, ensuring the procedure correlates with the patient’s clinical history and symptoms and the clinical indication is appropriate. Recognize abnormalities and obtain additional images as needed for diagnosis and treatment. Perform all tests according to established laboratory protocols and guidelines, documenting any exceptions. Follow approved techniques and policies for IV insertion and management when applicable. Obtain, prepare, and administer ultrasound‑enhancing agents according to policy and procedures. Observe sterile technique to prevent cross‑contamination. Familiarize patients with the test to be performed, explain procedures, and obtain relevant information from patients and clinical records. Adjust equipment controls, move transducer by hand over cardiac windows, observe the ultrasound display screen, and listen to Doppler signals to acquire data for measurement of blood flow velocities. Differentiates artifacts from anatomic/pathologic structures, adjust equipment, and recognize the significance of all visualized structures. Measure cardiac wall thicknesses, chamber sizes, blood flow velocities, and calculate data such as cardiac physiology and valve areas for evaluation of cardiac function per protocol. Document and transmit pertinent diagnostic and patient data into the digital archive system, ensuring documentation is timely, accurate, and complete. Recognize the need for urgent notification of critical findings and promptly inform the appropriate healthcare provider. Maintain a safe work environment by implementing department/hospital policies for environmental safety, equipment maintenance, and operation standards. Maintain professional credentials specific to the current practicing discipline; complete required CME’s and adhere to accrediting body standards. Participate in ongoing departmental QA process and assist in the collection and correlation of data to ensure overall accuracy for accreditation. Perform minor preventive maintenance on equipment and clean and stock labs. Travel may be required to different facilities. For BMH employees cross‑training between adult and pediatric sonography, achieve competency in pediatric echocardiography within six months from start of training. Shift: first shift, full‑time, scheduled weekly hours 40. Qualifications College‑level courses in Echocardiography with extensive technical training/experience in anatomy and disease; Associate degree; or Bachelor’s Degree in Echocardiography from an accredited college preferred. Must hold RDCS/RVT or CCI registry from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS); registry‑eligible candidates must achieve registry within one year of placement. BLS required upon hire or within six months of hire. Basic PC skills to operate the database and office programs used in the department. Ability to work and communicate with all managers, employees, physicians, and customers with whom the Cardiovascular Services Department does business. Ability to work well within a small workgroup; communicate effectively with team members, handle conflict assertively, resolve issues diplomatically, and participate in problem‑solving. Professional demeanor and treat everyone with respect. Physical ability to perform work requiring high mental/visual fatigue, including interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods, and operation of a computer or CRT for 40–70% of the time.
