The AR Specialist at KA Pain Consultants regularly interacts with patients and insurance. Key Responsibilities and Tasks (Essential Functions) Collections Documenting patient balances and copay collection prior to the patient’s appointment. Follow up with patients and insurance representatives who have outstanding balances indicating next steps to resolve in a timely manner. Assist patients with setting up payment plans or refer them to eligibility professionals to explore additional reimbursement resources. Insurance Follow-up Utilize collections queue and aging reports to follow up on unpaid claims. Identify root causes of insurance denials, following up with insurance companies and patients as needed. Process medical records and requests for additional information, etc. as requested by insurance companies. Process insurance appeals and rebills to payors. Other Insurance verification prior to patient appointments. Risk adjustment requests for the Pain Clinic. Respond to patient questions regarding bills and take payment information. Meet with Supervisor to discuss and resolve reimbursement issues or billing obstacles. Attend monthly staff meetings and continuing educational sessions as requested. Education, Experience, Skills & Knowledge Education and Experience High school diploma is required; Associates degree is preferred. Minimum of two years of accounts receivable experience is required, preferably in a medical setting. Familiarity with medical terminology and CPT and ICD-10 coding is preferred. Skills, Knowledge and other Competencies Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and medical billing software. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be positive with strong customer service orientation with ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to multi-task, with various interruptions, and meet important deadlines. Self-directed individual with ability to organize and prioritize work with strong attention to detail. Must maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment - phone for conference calls, fax machines, photocopiers, scanners. Perform to company standards of compliance with policies and procedures. Must be in good standing with KA business partners and eligible for EMR access including Epic and Cerner.
