In This Role You Will The primary responsibility of the Orthopaedic Technician/Athletic Trainer is to measure, fit, and dispense braces and splints as well as the placement of casts as directed by the physician. The Orthopaedic Technician/Athletic Trainer is required to research and comprehend the technical aspects of all types of bracing and casting in order to act as a resource to the medical team. They are also responsible for making sure all paperwork is completed and distributed to the proper team members to ensure timely billing. The Orthopaedic Technician/Athletic Trainer will be responsible for maintaining their assigned work areas in a clean and well‑stocked condition as well as inventory control, order entry, and restocking in their designated area. When available, the Orthopaedic Technician/Athletic Trainer should assist the Medical Assistant and other support staff with placing patients in rooms or any other duties deemed appropriate by their supervisor in order to make the clinic flow more smoothly and provide patients with excellent customer service. Key Responsibilities Provide excellent customer service. Apply and educate patients on durable medical equipment (DME)/bracing to protect or prevent injuries as ordered by the physician. This includes off‑the‑shelf and custom functional knee braces. Apply and educate patients on bandages, casts, and splints to protect or prevent injuries as ordered by the physician. Answer patient calls regarding questions or concerns with casts, splints, or DME. Properly document/dictate in our Athena (EMR) and Empower (Inventory) systems on all cast and DME clinic patients and DME items dispensed. Maintain the cast room in a clean and sanitary manner by ensuring all patient treatment surfaces, exam tables, foot stands, etc., are wiped down with an antimicrobial solution after each patient. Ensure casting and DME supplies are adequately ordered and stocked. Report any overstock, inadequate stock, or deadstock items to the DME Inventory Coordinator and DME Supervisor. Receive DME and supply orders, ensuring accuracy of packing slip information and attaching the packing slip to the purchase order. Promote high levels of teamwork and morale within the department. Attend regular staff meetings with the DME Manager and Supervisors. Promote interdepartmental collaboration. Promote a sense of pride in FOI and positive interpersonal relations among all team members. Regular hours M‑F (8‑hr shifts), option for overtime on Saturdays. Assure compliance with all company plans, policies, and procedures set forth by the Florida Orthopaedic Institute. All other duties assigned. About You Certified Athletic Trainer BS Degree preferred or higher Preferably a minimum of 1 to 2 years in the medical field. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Computer proficiency: MS Word, Excel, EMR systems. Meet the expectations of our internal and external customers in providing excellent service. Ability to perform tasks independently with the direction of the DME manager. Demonstrate effective problem‑solving skills. Willingly perform other duties or tasks as assigned and handle multiple tasks effectively and efficiently. Enjoy working as part of a team.
