Crane Spotter / Yard Associate

The Crane Spotter / Yard Associate plays a critical role in ensuring safe and efficient crane operations while supporting overall yard activities. This position is responsible for guiding crane operators during lifts, maintaining clear communication, and assisting with material handling, including forklift operation and general yard organization.

Key Responsibilities

Crane Spotting & Safety

• Act as the designated spotter for crane operations to ensure the safe movement of loads
• Maintain constant visual contact with the load, crane, and surrounding environment
• Communicate clearly with crane operators using hand signals and/or radio
• Monitor for hazards and stop operations if unsafe conditions arise
• Ensure compliance with all site safety policies and OSHA regulations

Yard Operations

• Assist with loading and unloading materials in the yard
• Perform general yard duties including staging, organizing, and securing materials
• Maintain clean and orderly work areas to support safe operations
• Support inbound and outbound shipment activities as needed

Forklift Operation

• Operate forklifts to move, stage, and load materials safely and efficiently
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and report any maintenance needs
• Follow all forklift safety procedures and operational guidelines

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a crane spotter, rigger, or in a similar role preferred
• Forklift certification (or ability to obtain)
• Strong understanding of safety protocols in a yard or industrial environment
• Ability to communicate effectively with equipment operators and team members
• Basic knowledge of material handling and logistics operations

Physical Requirements
