Geotechnical Engineer

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Geotechnical Engineer role based in Van Nuys, CA. The Geotechnical Engineer will plan and perform geotechnical site investigations, including logging borings and test pits, coordinating field crews, and overseeing in-situ testing. The role includes analyzing soil and rock data, preparing geotechnical reports, and providing recommendations for foundations, earthwork, retaining structures, and slope stability. The engineer will review project plans, collaborate with project managers and clients, and assist in resolving geotechnical issues during design and construction. Responsibilities also include occasional construction observation, preparation of technical calculations and drawings, and ensuring that work complies with applicable codes, standards, and company procedures. Qualifications Strong geotechnical engineering skills, including Geotechnical Engineering principles and Foundation Design for shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, and slopes. Experience with field and laboratory Site Investigation activities, including soil and rock sampling, test pits, drilling oversight, and interpretation of subsurface conditions. Working knowledge of Soil behavior and Engineering Geology, including soil classification, earth materials, groundwater, and geologic hazards. Proficiency in preparing clear, concise technical reports, calculations, and recommendations, with attention to detail and quality control. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related field; a master’s degree in geotechnical engineering is preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) required; Geotechnical Engineer (GE) license in California or ability to obtain in a reasonable timeframe is a plus. Familiarity with geotechnical software (e.g., slope stability, settlement, and bearing capacity analysis) and standard building codes and guidelines. Ability to perform fieldwork, including lifting equipment and working outdoors in varying conditions, and to travel locally to project sites as needed. Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
