Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced SAP S/4HANA Public Sector Functional Architect / Lead Consultant with deep expertise in Funds Management (FM), Grants Management (GM), Fund Accounting, Controlling (CO), and Project Systems (PS) .

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing, configuring, integrating, and leading SAP Public Sector financial solutions across complex government, healthcare, higher education, nonprofit, and other public-sector organizations.

This role requires a hands-on SAP functional leader who can translate complex business requirements into scalable SAP solutions, lead design workshops, oversee configuration and integration, and support implementations through testing, deployment, and post-go-live stabilization.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the functional architecture and solution design for SAP S/4HANA Public Sector financial implementations.
• Design and configure Funds Management (FM), Grants Management (GM), Fund Accounting, CO, and PS solutions.
• Develop and maintain complex FM/GM/Fund Accounting structures , including fund, grant, budget, commitment, actuals, and availability-control processes.
• Design master data hierarchies, derivation strategies, AVC ledgers, budget structures, and fund accounting models .
• Analyze complex public-sector accounting requirements and translate them into SAP functional designs.
• Lead business process workshops, requirements gathering, fit-gap analysis, blueprinting, functional specifications, and solution validation.
• Design integrations between FM/GM and FI/CO, MM, SD, HR/Payroll, PS, Asset Accounting, Procurement, and other SAP components .
• Support integration with SAP solutions such as SAP BRIM, Concur, SuccessFactors, Employee Central, Ariba, and BPC where applicable.
• Lead functional integration testing, user acceptance testing, defect resolution, cutover, go-live, hypercare, and production support.
• Provide functional leadership and mentoring to SAP consultants, business analysts, and client project teams.
• Develop functional specifications and collaborate with technical teams on custom developments, interfaces, reports, enhancements, user exits, and BADIs.
• Support data conversion and migration activities from legacy financial systems into SAP.
• Develop and enhance financial, budgetary, grant, and consumption reporting.
• Provide guidance on SAP Public Sector best practices and recommend standard SAP functionality where appropriate.
• Support fiscal year-end activities, production issue resolution, and ongoing optimization of SAP financial processes.
• Conduct knowledge transfer and training for client teams and business users.

Required Technical Skills

• Extensive SAP experience with S/4HANA Public Sector .

• Strong understanding of public-sector accounting, budgeting, grants, fund accounting, and financial controls .
• Experience with SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud and/or On-Premise environments.
• Experience designing SAP integrations across Finance, Logistics, HR, Payroll, Procurement, and Project Systems.
• Experience with SAP Embedded Analytics and financial reporting .
• Experience with SAP data conversion, interfaces, enhancements, reports, and integration testing.
• Strong understanding of SAP implementation methodologies and full project lifecycle delivery.

Preferred Experience

• Experience supporting U.S. federal, state, county, city, municipal, education, healthcare, nonprofit, or other public-sector organizations .
• Experience with S/4HANA 2025 or recent S/4HANA releases .
• Experience with SAP Public Sector modernization and ECC-to-S/4HANA migrations.
• Experience with SAP BRIM, Concur, Ariba, SuccessFactors, Employee Central, or BPC .
• Experience with complex government budgeting and grant-management processes.
• Experience leading large SAP implementation teams.
• Consulting experience with major systems integrators or SAP.
• Experience working in multilingual and international environments is a plus.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, Business, or a related field.
• MBA or advanced degree in Accounting/Finance is preferred.
• Relevant SAP certifications/training in Public Sector, Funds Management, Grants Management, FI/CO, or S/4HANA are highly desirable.
