Compliance Specialist

Position Overview The Compliance Specialist is responsible for supporting regulatory compliance across textile mill operations, including worker safety and health, supplier compliance, chemical management, environmental compliance, and finished product compliance. This role requires strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills, as well as practical knowledge of industry regulations, standards, permits, documentation, and compliance programs. Job Description Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to occupational health and safety, environmental standards, and textile-specific requirements. Regularly review and evaluate mill operations, processes, products, and compliance programs to identify potential risks and implement measures to mitigate them. Audit chemical mixing and dosing areas for safe handling, spill control, and proper chemical management practices. Ensure compliance with air emission standards associated with textile finishing equipment, including stenters, boilers, dryers, and related plant operations. Evaluate and monitor supplier compliance with quality standards, regulations, buyer requirements, and brand Restricted Substance Lists (RSLs). Confirm finishing recipes and operations comply with applicable RSLs, hazardous substance restrictions, and customer or brand compliance expectations. Oversee chemical inventory control, MSDS/SDS documentation, and safe handling protocols. Support proper disposal, recycling, and reduction of wastewater, solid waste, air emissions, and other environmental impacts. Manage and maintain environmental permits for water discharge, air emissions, and waste handling. Maintain compliance records, including permits, wastewater test results, air monitoring data, waste manifests, licenses, and certifications. Coordinate and document product testing to verify finished textile goods comply with applicable quality and safety specifications. Track renewals and reporting deadlines to ensure permits, licenses, certifications, and regulatory submissions are completed on time. Support compliance with applicable programs and regulatory areas, including EPA reporting systems, REACH, RoHS, Prop 65, TSCA, PFAS reporting, conflict minerals, Bluesign, and related initiatives. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of OSHA/HSE requirements, EPA environmental standards, textile-related compliance standards, and manufacturing compliance practices. Understanding of chemical management, hazardous substance restrictions, Restricted Substance Lists (RSLs), MSDS/SDS documentation, and safe handling protocols. Ability to interpret and maintain permits, licenses, certifications, test results, reporting records, and compliance documentation. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify compliance risks and recommend practical corrective actions. Effective written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with internal teams, suppliers, auditors, agencies, and customers as needed. Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through to manage renewals, documentation, testing, and reporting deadlines. Ability to work collaboratively with production, quality, maintenance, purchasing, environmental, and leadership teams. Required Qualifications and Skills Experience with manufacturing compliance, textile compliance, environmental compliance, safety compliance, chemical compliance, or a related field preferred. Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, air emissions, water discharge, waste disposal, textile-specific standards, and product compliance requirements preferred. Familiarity with compliance programs and reporting tools such as 3E Exchange/ToxNot, ChemGes, HPD Builder, EPA CDX, SSTS, and related platforms is a plus. Ability to maintain organized records and manage multiple compliance priorities, deadlines, and reporting requirements. Ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑functional team in a textile manufacturing environment. Physical and Work Environment Requirements Ability to work in an office and manufacturing environment, including occasional exposure to production areas, noise, chemicals, and moving machinery. Must be able to access plant areas as needed to perform audits, inspections, documentation reviews, and compliance follow‑up activities. Overtime or schedule flexibility may be required based on business needs, audits, reporting deadlines, or regulatory requirements. Must comply with all company security policies and procedures.
