Facilities Ambassador

Job Overview JOB TITLE: Facilities Ambassador REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager STATUS: Full-Time/Non-Exempt COMPENSATION: $24.49 per hour, including paid medical insurance and paid time off (vacation, health, & holidays) GENERAL SUMMARY: The Facilities Ambassador is part of a team of six supporting the day‑to‑day functioning of a safe and welcoming space for the community, working with Center staff, tenants, non‑profit organizations, LGBTQ+ individuals, and vulnerable members of the community. The Center owns and operates a 35,000 square foot facility that provides direct services and space for special events, meetings and other gatherings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Courteously welcome clients and visitors to the Center, creating a hospitable environment and providing services with dignity and respect. Follow and implement all Center policies, procedures, and Community Agreements. Apply non‑violent crisis intervention and de‑escalation techniques to manage and resolve conflicts safely and effectively. Monitor building entrances, lobbies, and outside surroundings to ensure safety, including immediate assessment of hazards and notification of appropriate management staff when identified. Perform daily building opening and/or closing duties, depending on shift. Independently perform routine janitorial duties to maintain cleanliness and hygiene across all facility areas. Assist in the day‑to‑day functioning of the building, including maintenance, repairs, acting as a liaison with vendors, and other duties assigned by the Facilities Manager. Support Room Rental Coordinator by providing room set‑ups/breakdowns and responding to on‑site event holder requests. Serve as a liaison as needed. Monitor, identify, and report building maintenance needs and safety hazards. Act as the Center liaison to emergency responders (police, paramedics, fire department, etc.) in the absence of Facilities Manager or other management personnel. In urgent crisis situations, contact emergency responders in accordance with the Center’s 911 policy. Perform additional facility‑related tasks as directed by the Facilities Manager to support Center operations. Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, safety equipment, and other facility‑related materials; notify Facilities Manager when restocking is needed. Maintain accurate logs of visitors and vendors entering the building in accordance with Center policies. Assist in implementing and maintaining emergency preparedness plans, including participation in drills.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Commitment to the mission and vision of the SF LGBT Center. Knowledge/familiarity with LGBTQ+ community and ability to work with a broad range of community members representing the full diversity of the LGBTQ+ and allied communities. Strong commitment to racial, social, and economic justice. Ability to work professionally and ethically in a multicultural team setting, maintaining a high level of confidentiality. Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to maintain supportive working relationships with a wide variety of community‑based organizations. Familiarity with basic maintenance/repair. Ability to work independently and/or with limited supervision. Ability to follow written instructions and diagrams. Basic computer skills (email, calendar, Word, Zoom, etc.). Initiative, dependability, and flexibility. Able to work indoors/outdoors and perform tasks on a ladder of 10 ft. and higher. Basic understanding of emergency response protocols and ability to act calmly and effectively in urgent situations. Familiarity with building systems such as HVAC, lighting, and security (preferred). Demonstrated ability to manage and de‑escalate conflicts in a respectful and effective manner. Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs as needed for facility tasks and event setups. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (not required) Prior experience using crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and/or de‑escalation methods. CPR, First Aid, and/or OSHA Certification. Basic familiarity with audiovisual and theatrical setup. Bilingual language skills (bilingual pay differential available if qualified).

WORKING CONDITIONS

Position is based 100% at the Center’s 1800 Market Street location.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to work indoors/outdoors and perform tasks on a ladder of 10 ft. and higher. Must be able to operate machinery (use hands/fingers/arms to handle, feel or reach). Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of several hours daily (stand or sit). Must be able to move supplies and lift objects up to 100 pounds with assistance. Must be able to move around the building (walk, climb, kneel). Must be able to work in a shared office space with 3 or more employees in the same office with moderate levels of noise. Must be able to communicate with patrons. Employees in this position must be able to perform these essential functions satisfactorily, and if requested, reasonable accommodations will be made to enable employees with disabilities to perform the essential functions of their job. Hours are primarily Tuesday – Saturday, but the position may start Monday to Friday. Work schedules are within a standard 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. window. Local travel may be required for meetings or off‑site events. Out‑of‑town travel is infrequent and negotiable. No car required.
