Job Description The School Librarian/Technology Specialist creates and maintains an environment that supports active learning, inquiry, literacy development, technology integration, and collaboration with staff and students. This role serves as an instructional partner, information specialist, technology resource, and teacher to promote student achievement and ethical use of information and technology within a bilingual and bimodal educational environment. Responsibilities Library and Media Services Create and maintain an inviting, safe, flexible library environment conducive to student learning. Collaborate with school community members to define library policies and guide related activities. Align library program goals with school and district long‑range strategic plans. Implement program goals using effective resource and facility management. Prepare, justify, and administer the library program budget. Establish procedures for selection, acquisition, circulation, and resource sharing. Ensure equitable physical access to library facilities, including barrier‑free and universally designed environments. Maintain active memberships in professional library and education associations. Collaborate with teachers and students to design and teach inquiry‑based learning experiences and assessments. Provide group and individual instruction during collaboratively planned instruction. Plan and support experiences that promote a love of reading and lifelong learning. Participate in professional development opportunities for school and district staff. Lead the selection, acquisition, evaluation, and organization of information resources and technologies in all formats. Ensure equitable access to information resources and promote responsible and ethical use. Develop and maintain a collection of resources aligned with curriculum, learner needs, and instructional strategies. Model effective strategies for developing multiple literacies. Organize library collections for maximum accessibility. Empower students to become critical thinkers, readers, researchers, and ethical users of information. Guide students in reading for understanding, exposure to diverse viewpoints, and personal enjoyment. Support students in using information for defined and self‑defined purposes. Assist students in building on prior knowledge and constructing new knowledge. Help students navigate information and media in all formats. Collect and analyze data to improve instruction and demonstrate connections between the library program and student achievement. Research, write, and submit persuasive grant proposals to secure library funds. Technology Integration Support staff and students with instructional technology tools and digital resources. Assist in integrating technology into classroom instruction across grade levels. Provide training and support on educational technology platforms and applications. Collaborate with staff to enhance digital literacy and responsible technology use. Troubleshoot basic technology issues and coordinate with IT support as needed. STEAM Programming Develop and implement STEAM‑related learning opportunities and enrichment activities. Facilitate hands‑on learning experiences involving science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Support project‑based learning and interdisciplinary instruction. Coordinate STEAM events, clubs, maker‑space activities, or schoolwide initiatives. Encourage creativity, problem‑solving, collaboration, and innovation among students. Job Requirements Library Media certification from the Rhode Island Department of Education. Master’s Degree in Library Science, Educational Technology, or related field (preferred). Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in educational settings with students of diverse learning needs. Knowledge of instructional technology, digital resources, and STEAM education. Fluency in American Sign Language. Knowledge of and respect for the cultural norms and language of the Deaf community. Ability to work effectively as part of an educational team. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Background check required. Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
