Company Overview P&E Constructors is an employee-owned (ESOP) mechanical and electrical construction firm executing large capital projects with deep roots in the industrial construction sector. This role supports projects across the United States and requires a high level of travel based on business and project needs. Candidates may be based anywhere within the U.S.; however, the selected individual should be prepared for assignments at various project locations nationwide. Travel for this position may reach up to approximately 90% . Project assignments generally last 10 to 17 months, depending on project duration and operational requirements. While assigned to a project away from home, eligible employees are provided per diem to assist with temporary living and travel-related expenses, in addition to a competitive base salary. To support project deployment, mobilization assistance may be provided, which can include mileage reimbursement or other approved travel support. Employees may also receive extended weekend rotations approximately once per month, allowing additional time for travel home. Position Overview The Mechanical Estimator plays a key role in the development of accurate, competitive, and technically compliant project estimates. Working under the direction of a Senior Estimator, this position supports all phases of the proposal development process, from interpreting client requirements and preparing quantity takeoffs to evaluating supplier pricing and assisting with estimate turnover activities. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with strong technical knowledge, sound estimating judgment, and experience supporting complex industrial construction projects. Responsibilities Support proposal development activities under the direction of a Senior Lead Estimator Review and understand Request for Proposal (RFP) packages, including project scope, deliverables, and estimating requirements Develop accurate quantity takeoffs to support project estimates Review and approve client Bill of Materials (BOMs) and Bill of Quantities (BOQs) prepared and conditioned by Estimating Support Staff Evaluate material and subcontractor bid tabs and approve selected supplier pricing, ensuring technical compliance with project requirements Participate in estimate reviews, including Direct Reviews, Indirect Reviews, Constructability Reviews, and other estimate validation meetings as required Assist with the completion of client bid forms and proposal documentation Support estimate turnover activities following project award, as needed Assist with the preparation and support of large change order estimates upon request Apply sound estimating practices and professional judgment to produce complete and accurate estimates while meeting proposal deadlines Lead and coordinate small estimating teams when required based on project size, complexity, or schedule demands Requirements Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field 5-15 years' experience estimating h eavy industrial, energy, infrastructure, data centers, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, or oil & gas projects Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Proficient with Bluebeam Strong understanding of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), Advanced Work Packaging (AWP), Construction Work Areas (CWA), and Field Installation Work Packages (FIWP), and their application to estimating and scheduling Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills Strong interpersonal and customer service skills Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Strong technical writing and editing abilities Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills Ability to exercise sound estimating judgment when project documentation is incomplete or unclear Ability to prepare detailed Requests for Information (RFIs) to resolve inconsistencies or gaps within RFP packages Strong understanding of construction means and methods, including sequencing, work fronts, laydown areas, staging, and overall constructability Ability to prioritize workload and perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Ability to lead and mentor small estimating teams when project needs require At P&E Constructors, we believe in rewarding our employees through competitive compensation, employee ownership, and a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your financial wellbeing, health, and future.
