Senior Legal Specialist – Card Litigation The Legal Department is seeking an experienced paralegal (known as “Legal Specialist”) to manage defensive litigation for the Card Litigation portfolio. The Senior Legal Specialist will report to a lawyer on the card litigation team and manage a portfolio of litigation matters, interacting with internal business associates and with internal and external legal counsel. Responsibilities Reviewing and analyzing defensive litigation matters Analyzing complaints, significant matters, motions, discovery, disputes, and fraud claims Performing research to independently gather internal documents and information relevant to cases Maintaining litigation case files, including pleadings, discovery, and correspondence Supporting internal and external legal counsel in identifying relevant account information and developing litigation strategies Managing interactions with external counsel and performing necessary research to respond to complaints, counterclaims, and discovery requests Interfacing and negotiating with opposing parties or counsel and/or co‑defendants or their counsel when required Working a high‑volume caseload, managing competing priorities, and meeting litigation deadlines Working cases efficiently and effectively to mitigate risk for the company Collaborating with internal legal counsel and business clients to improve existing business practices and procedures Supporting the team with monthly reporting responsibilities to internal business associates Knowledge & Skills Knowledge of consumer finance laws, collection laws, and regulations Excellent problem‑solving, judgment, and decision‑making skills Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently Excellent communication and influencing skills, both written and verbal Capability to anticipate and resolve problems quickly and independently Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, properly prioritize workload, and meet litigation deadlines Basic Qualifications High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification At least 2 years of experience in a paralegal role, in an in‑house legal department or law firm Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of paralegal experience with an in‑house legal department or law firm, preferably with a litigation background 1+ year of experience managing external legal counsel 2+ years of experience using either Google Workspace (formerly G Suite – Gmail and Google Docs & Drive) or Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) Work Arrangement This role is hybrid; associates spend 3 days per week in‑person at one of our offices listed on the posting.
