Experience: Two (2) years of recent department specific experience required. 1-2 years of charge nurse or supervisory expertise in department specific.
License: Current RN license
Certifications: Current BLS certification, ACLS certification, Basic EKG/tele interpretation experience required or completion of a Basic EKG class within six months of employment.
Must-Have: Completion of an accredited Registered Nursing Program; BSN preferred.
Description: This is a clinical supervisor position and the candidate may be subject to patient assignment. The RN Supervisor treats everyone with dignity and respect and encourages collaborative relationships with colleagues, community providers, patients, and family members. Identifies ways to improve customer service and feedback while reducing customer/patient complaints. Regularly attends department meetings, town hall meetings, and staff recognition events as appropriate. Actively participates in departmental, hospital, and facility committees. Ensures timely compliance with job requirements including annual testing, vaccinations, licensure, and certification renewals. Identifies own educational needs and seeks appropriate learning experiences. Adheres to attendance requirements and keeps the work area clean, organized, and clutter-free. Reports any unsafe situations or safety hazards immediately. Participates in emergency preparedness drills and demonstrates understanding of roles in emergencies or disasters. Interacts professionally and timely with patients, families, guests, medical staff, and peers. Follows the chain of command and escalates issues or concerns appropriately. Utilizes effective communication and interpersonal skills to support the total health care needs of the care team, the patient, and assist family members. Assists with planning and yearly needs assessment for the unit's budget. Monitors patient care activities within budget and staff usage under the guidance of the manager. Ensures staff breaks occur and communicates with management regarding obstacles. Assists staff in avoiding incremental overtime and demonstrates understanding of budget concepts. Identifies opportunities to improve unit labor efficiency throughout shifts. Identifies and proactively addresses cost reduction opportunities regularly. Participates in the identification of needed capital items and product evaluations. Works collaboratively with medical staff and other departments to ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance. Completes purposeful patient rounding to monitor the environment for safety concerns that require intervention and enhance patient satisfaction. Role models service and integrates interdepartmental communication and resolution of issues. Handles complaints and grievances effectively through strong communication skills. Participates in performance improvement activities within the department and core measures. Actively participates in regular attendance at designated meetings and committees. Participates in staff development, evaluation of competency, and performance reviews. Maintains accurate records for continuing education and in-service training of all personnel. Supports staff development of clinical and professional skills toward the goal of nurse autonomy. Displays positive traits and qualities for effective supervision and teamwork. Continuously strives to improve departmental services and organizational performance. Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism, maintaining confidentiality and supporting a positive work environment. Functions as a clinical resource and maintains high nursing standards. Interprets cardiac arrhythmias and intervenes appropriately while following guidelines. Participates in the development and teaching of annual skills and competency validation. Continually improves knowledge related to the specialty population served within the unit. Demonstrates appropriate interventions regarding the use of restraints and maintains required certifications.
