Development Coordinator
My Friend's Place
Position Summary
The Development Coordinator is responsible for supporting My Friend’s Place’s resource development plan through assigned grant writing, communications copywriting, and related department support. The Development Coordinator will be a key department member working closely with the Associate Director of Institutional Giving and the Associate Director of Communications to create written and visual materials for external audiences that advance our community-building and fundraising efforts.
The ideal candidate is able to work independently, engages in effective time management practices, and has excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills. They will be detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and a highly motivated team player.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Writing and Department Support
- Draft grant proposals, letters of inquiry, grant reports, and related funder materials that are accurate, compelling, and aligned with funder requirements, deadlines, and submission specifications.
- Support the preparation of institutional giving materials by gathering program information, impact data, budget details, attachments, and required documentation.
- Support the administrative functions of the grants team, including digital file organization, document management, meeting notes, follow-up items, and grant calendar maintenance.
- Support grant compliance by helping ensure funder records, reporting deadlines, contact information, and documentation are complete and current.
- Partner with Development team members to support onsite development functions, including greeting contributors, receiving in-kind donations, assisting with donor visits, and supporting donor or volunteer engagement activities.
- Provide support for special events, fundraising activities, youth-centered events, volunteer projects, and community engagement opportunities.
- Represent My Friend’s Place at community events, donor engagement opportunities, volunteer activities, and agency events, which may include occasional evenings and weekends.
- Help create a welcoming, respectful, and dignified environment for contributors, volunteers, partners, youth, staff, and community members.
- Support internal staff engagement by preparing Development updates, gathering information, and helping report on Development activities during All Staff meetings or other internal spaces.
- Maintain a positive public image of My Friend’s Place through professional, courteous, and mission-aligned communication with donors, partners, volunteers, and community members.
Communications and Marketing
Social Media
- Draft copy for social media posts that reflects the organization’s voice, mission, programs, events, campaigns, and community engagement priorities.
- Design basic social media graphics in Canva or similar platforms, ensuring materials are visually clear, accessible, and aligned with brand standards.
- Draft copy and graphics for social media toolkits used by board members, Emerging Leaders Council members, volunteers, donors, and other community ambassadors.
- Monitor social media inboxes and comments; respond to general messages when appropriate or triage inquiries to the appropriate team member.
E-Newsletters and Email Campaigns
- Draft copy for e-newsletters, email updates, campaign communications, and donor/community engagement messages.
- Create basic e-newsletter graphics and visual assets in Canva or similar platforms.
- Support the production of e-newsletters and email campaigns in coordination with the Associate Director of Communications.
General Marketing Materials
- Draft and design external-facing materials such as flyers, one-pagers, brochures, program materials, event materials, and community engagement resources.
- Support the development of communications materials for programs, volunteer engagement, fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship, and community outreach.
- Help ensure all public-facing materials are clear, accurate, visually consistent, mission-aligned, and approved through the appropriate internal process.

- Understands and satisfactorily performs activities as assigned by the Associate Director of Institutional Giving, Associate Director of Communications, and Director of Development

- Maintains a level of professional knowledge so as to function as a resource for all staff, volunteers, and community members for the agency’s overall operations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or equivalent experience required
- One to two years of experience in persuasive writing or copywriting required, prior development writing experience preferred
- General knowledge of and enthusiasm for nonprofit development
- Proficient computer skills required, including competency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office
- Basic graphic design skills and experience using design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and maintain effective time management practices conducive to successfully meeting concurrent deadlines
