About the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles:

The Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles (MFLA) is an independent 501(c)(3) organization that develops, supports, and manages programs that prevent homelessness through outreach, case management, and expanded legal services. MFLA also focuses on homelessness prevention among foster youth, veterans, and undocumented residents. The total budget of $7.5M is raised annually. MFLA has a staff of eight full-time employees, partners with community organizations to provide direct services and retains consultants for services like accounting and aspects of communications.

Position Summary:

The Development Coordinator, reporting to the Director of Finance and Development, helps to raise private sector and philanthropic funds to fuel MFLA’s homelessness prevention work. The Development Coordinator provides administrative and operational support for all aspects of fundraising, including cultivation and stewardship of existing and prospective donors. This role will support the Director of Finance and Development, CEO, and Board members with development outreach and engagement, presentations, and follow-up.

Key Responsibilities:

• Administrative Support
  • Oversee day-to-day development administration, including donor correspondence, content creation, and file management and organization
  • Provide administrative support for Director of Development and Finance, including calendar management and material preparation
  • Prepare pledge forms, invoices, and acknowledgement letters
  • Maintain Salesforce database, including accurate data input and maintenance
  • Organize and coordinate logistics for Board meetings and fundraising-related events
  • Provide on-site support during events, including greeting guests and coordinating logistics in real time
  • Serve as a liaison between vendors, sponsors, and internal staff during event planning and execution
  • Assist the CEO with development tasks as needed
• Development Operations
  • Serve as a point of contact for donor inquiries and requests, ensuring timely and warm responses
  • Support donor recognition efforts, outreach and coordinating personal thank-you notes
  • Process and track all contributions to the Mayor’s Fund, including online donations, checks, electronic transfers, and stocks
  • Prepare pledge forms, invoices and acknowledgement letters in a timely manner
  • Maintain Salesforce database, including accurate data input and clean up
  • Produce reports, dashboards and donor lists to support development efforts
  • Reconcile revenue with financial team and file compliance paperwork
  • Build and maintain relationships with board members, recurring donors and sponsors, and partner organizations to encourage continued engagement
• Board of Directors Liaison
  • Manage board meeting and committee calendars, agendas, material creation, minutes and logistics for Board meetings and Board subcommittee meetings
  • Ensure adherence with Board compliance protocols and manage related workstreams in partnership with President & CEO

Qualifications:

• Strong desire to help prevent homelessness and serve vulnerable Angelenos
• Minimum 2 years professional work experience
• Strong organizational skills, with keen attention to detail
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications; comfortable engaging with wide range of people
• Ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Proactive, motivated self-starter
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google platforms
• Experience with Salesforce or other fundraising CRM platform highly preferred
• Knowledge of Los Angeles fundraising landscape or ability to learn it
