Construction Inspector

Job Description A client of ours is looking for Inspectors to join their Construction Services team who will play a key role in all aspects of construction administration, inspection and testing services for state (INDOT), county, and local Clients. You’ll be involved in the testing and inspection aspects of a wide variety of construction projects including those in the roadway/bridge, water/wastewater, aviation, commercial, and municipal utility/infrastructure sectors. You’ll leverage your expertise in construction inspection and creative problem‑solving skills while collaborating closely with institutions/municipal agencies. Additional Information This position will include primarily field work with some office work. This position works independently on broad projects under direction of a Dept. Manager. Projects are typically in the greater Indianapolis area/Central Indiana region. Frequent travel within this region is expected. A stipend for personal vehicle use or a company take‑home vehicle will be provided, based on the assignment. INDOT and Indianapolis DPW large project experience is a strong plus. Monitor and enforce quality standards and specifications. Read project drawings, specifications, blueprints, and work on a variety of construction projects. Perform construction administration and inspection services for state, county and local roadway and bridge projects and municipal utility or infrastructure projects. Inspect construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans and/or proposals on roadway and bridge projects. Verify plan quantities and calculations are within bid plans. Prepare and maintain project records and reports in a timely manner. Notify the Contractor or the Project Engineer with status updates or about non‑conforming work. Possibly conduct hazardous material surveys, as well as asbestos abatement monitoring services during abatement projects. Conduct quality control testing at project sites, including concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, aggregate and reinforcing steel. Notify the Project Engineer with status updates or non‑conforming work. Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Engineer or Project Manager. Technical school or community college graduate. Preferred: Associate Degree with 2 years of additional related work experience or Bachelor’s Degree or Certification in a related field. 2+ years of related experience. Familiarity with highway construction specifications and previous field experience. Experience with concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and utility construction engineering services and inspection/testing. Experience with field and laboratory testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, masonry, structural steel and fireproofing, etc. Previous experience working for a testing company.
