As an Actuarial Consultant in our Actuarial Leadership Development Program, you won't just analyze data-you'll shape the future of affordability and care delivery. From partnering in comprehensive business reviews to uncovering meaningful healthcare savings opportunities, you'll collaborate across clinical, finance, underwriting, and beyond to turn insights into action. You'll play a critical role in trend forecasting, evaluate the impact of affordability initiatives, and deliver high-impact, ad hoc analytics to key stakeholders-all while leveraging cutting-edge technologies, including AI and automation, to transform how we work. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.Primary Responsibilities:Analyzes and investigates complex actuarial questions/problemsProvides explanations and interpretations of current and developing trends in healthcare utilization and costsSupports efforts to identify affordability opportunities to lower the cost of healthcare for the members we serveCommunicates results and technical concepts to broad audiencesWorks with detailed claim and membership data from various sources/data warehousesUtilizes AI to find affordability opportunities and create workflow efficienciesCreates and maintains actuarial models/reportsYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline4+ years of actuarial work experience Progress toward actuarial designation (ASA track), having passed 4+ examsExperience leading actuarial analyses within health insuranceExperience with SQL or similar programming languageAdvanced or higher level of proficiency with ExcelProven solid actuarial judgment and ability to independently resolve complex or ambiguous analytical issuesProven solid organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deliverablesProven ability to translate technical results into clear insights for non-actuarial stakeholdersPreferred Qualifications:ASA or FSA Society of Actuaries DesignationDemonstrated intermediate proficiency with coding languages such as SQL/R/PythonProven excellent oral and written communication skills*All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter PolicyPay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
