Location & Schedule Primary City/State: Mesa, Arizona Department: Cardio Work Shift: Day Job Category: Clinical Care Location: Banner Desert Medical Center, 1400 S Dobson Rd., Mesa, AZ Schedule: Full time, 4 × 10‑hr shifts with rotating weekends. Position Summary The Cardiac Sonographer in the ECHO Lab is responsible for performing portable echocardiographic examinations throughout the facility, including routine and STAT studies in a fast‑paced environment. The role collaborates closely with cardiologists, providing high‑quality imaging and preliminary clinical findings to support diagnosis and treatment planning. Core Functions Performs procedures according to referring providers’ orders, applying independent judgment and established protocols. Oversees heart clinic echocardiographic services, maintaining quality of performance and adherence to ASE or IAC guidelines. Educates patients and families about procedures and treatments. Demonstrates professional conduct, fosters teamwork, and optimizes resource use for quality patient outcomes. Obtains high‑quality images, presents them for timely interpretation, and documents findings accurately. Provides preliminary clinical information to supervising physicians, cardiologists, or cardiac surgeons. Demonstrates competence in prescribed invasive/interventional procedures per established policies. Performs and evaluates equipment quality‑control measurements, troubleshoots issues, and coordinates repairs. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors in accordance with safety policies. Assumes responsibility for ethical, legal, professional, and certification duties, maintaining confidentiality of all work information. Ensures efficient department workflow, monitors inventory, and performs high‑level disinfection per manufacturer and regulatory requirements. Serves as the clinical and technical expert in cardiac sonographic imaging. Acts as a resource for staff and students, trains new staff, provides education to Banner Health personnel, and assesses student competency. Ensures compliance with professional scope of practice, accreditation, regulatory standards (including Joint Commission and Title 22). Performs additional duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Completion of an accredited Allied Health Cardiovascular program. National certification as a Cardiac Sonographer from ARDMS or CCI. Uncertified new hires eligible for certification must obtain it within 12 months of hire. BLS certification required. Clinical knowledge typically achieved with one to two years of experience. Effective communication, human relations, data analysis, and problem‑solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Adult echo experience. Additional related education and/or experience.
