Billing Specialist

Job Description

The Billing Specialist supports a utility billing environment as part of a billing team with a supervisor. This role manages high-volume invoice production, payment posting, data entry, customer billing inquiries, and collections support while maintaining accurate records and following applicable laws, tariffs, regulations, billing principles, and procedures. Daily work includes using Excel, Microsoft Office, and the AVR billing system.

Responsibilities

• Process high-volume invoices accurately and efficiently.
• Utilize the company's billing system to update and maintain customer accounts with accurate information,
• Generate bills for water and wastewater services in accordance with established procedures and billing cycles.
• Conduct regular audits of billing data to identify and correct any discrepancies or errors.
• Assist in the development of efficient bill distribution and collection routes to optimize billing operations.
• Assisy in identifying and implementing improvements in billing processes, procedures, and systems.
• Collaborate with Customer Service team to address customer concerns and resolve billing related issues.
• Post payments and maintain accurate billing records.
• Perform billing-related data entry and record-keeping.
• Use Excel, Microsoft Office, and the AVR billing system in daily operations.
• Respond to customer billing inquiries and provide customer service.
• Support customer and collections activities.
• Prepare reports and apply analytical skills to billing data.
• Adhere to applicable laws, tariffs, regulations, billing principles, and procedures, including government billing requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 to 5 years of experience in billing operations, customer service, or related field
• Proficiency in MS Office and experience with billing systems(experience with AVR billing system is a plus.)
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and billing processes
• Certification in billing or customer service.
