EEG Department Supervisor - Full Time, Days

EEG Department Manager

Oversees daily operations, staffing and training of the EEG department. Performs a wide variety of neurodiagnostic studies to include EEG (awake and sleep) in the lab, at the bedside of critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit and in the Operating Room.

Principal duties and responsibilities include:

1. Participates in HR functions to include candidate selection, training, coaching, mentorship.
2. Works directly with the department Executive Director to develop budgets, select equipment and purchase appropriate supplies.
3. Responsible for scheduling department employees and ensuring department has appropriate coverage.
4. Performs standard electroencephalographic recordings (wake and sleep, portable, isolation, and electrocerebral silence evaluations) in accordance with established policies and procedures.
5. Performs special procedure EEGs in the Intensive Care Unit/Operating Room.
6. Summarizes the patient's neurological status and clinical history from the medical chart, patient or other knowledgeable persons.
7. Performs Ambulatory EEG and playback according to department policies and procedures.
8. Explains the procedures to the patient and any family members present.
9. Adapts instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on history, clinical observations and test findings.
10. Provides appropriate patient care and detailed observation of clinical manifestations during seizures or other patient emergency situations.
11. Ensures electrical safety of patient at all times.
12. Keeps equipment in clean operating condition. Performs routine maintenance and notifies Clinical Engineering of need for major repairs.
13. Logs in appropriate patient data, enters orders, processes charges and prepares tests for interpretation by neurologist.
14. Participates in hospital wide Quality Management Program.
15. Provides scheduling and monitoring of EEG reports.
16. Performs similar or related duties as assigned or requested.

Knowledge, skills and abilities include:

1. Ability to deliver patient care in a manner that is appropriate to the demographics and/ or specific needs of the patient population served by the hospital.
2. Demonstrates proficiency in assessing, responding and adapting treatment of care to meet the needs of the patient population served by the hospital.
3. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
4. Familiarity with the technical equipment.
5. Ability to transport patients via stretcher and wheelchair.
6. Strong interpersonal skills to interact with patients, physicians and staff in other departments.

Work schedule: Routinely Monday through Friday with occasional overtime required. Occasional weekend coverage required. On call required.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associates degree in Clinical Neurophysiology preferred.
• Minimum five (5) years EEG testing including standard EEG and Ambulatory EEG.
• Registered EEG Technician preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
