Molecular Biologist for AI Model Training [Remote]

Role Overview

Apply hands-on molecular biology expertise to help research and engineering teams develop and evaluate advanced AI models. You will create expert-grounded training data and assessment frameworks focused on nucleic-acid sequence design and construct engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise research and engineering teams on molecular biology knowledge gaps to improve AI model performance.
• Create challenging molecular biology tasks and accurate, well-documented reference solutions covering PCR, qPCR, and cloning primers; plasmids and expression vectors; CRISPR gRNA and sgRNA; mRNA and RNA constructs; and HDR and repair templates.
• Evaluate molecular biology tasks and AI-generated outputs against expert-quality solutions, providing written feedback on correctness, rigor, and biological reasoning.
• Develop detailed guidelines, rubrics, and evaluation frameworks for sequence-design quality, including guide and target selection, homology-arm length, primer melting temperature and specificity, codon optimization, and regulatory elements.
• Partner with other subject-matter experts to maintain consistent, accurate training data.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, synthetic biology, bioengineering, or a related life-science field. A PhD is strongly preferred.
• Hands-on pre-experimental design experience across several of the following: primers, plasmids or vectors, gRNA or sgRNA, mRNA, and HDR or repair templates.
• Experience with cloning strategies such as Gibson, Golden Gate, Gateway, or restriction cloning, plus codon optimization.
• Strong peer-reviewed publication record, with emphasis on first-author publications in notable venues such as Nature and related journals, Cell, eLife, Nucleic Acids Research, PNAS, or EMBO Journal. Include publication links with your application.
• Demonstrable career progression, strong written communication skills, and the ability to explain design decisions clearly and precisely.
• Experience with AI training, model evaluation, or data annotation is preferred.

Work Terms

• Remote role for candidates based in the United Kingdom.
• Hourly W-2 employment through an employer-of-record arrangement, with potential placement on an AI lab team.
• Part-time to full-time engagement, up to 40 hours per week.
• Reliable weekday availability of at least 20 hours per week is required.

Compensation

• £70 to £105 per hour.
