Shift Manager

Position Summary

The Shift Manager is responsible for leading daily restaurant operations during assigned shifts while ensuring outstanding customer service, food safety, operational excellence, and team performance. Shift Managers support the General Manager and Department Managers by coaching crew, maintaining McDonald’s standards, driving results, and creating a positive work environment.

The Shift Manager acts as the leader on duty and is responsible for ensuring the restaurant operates safely, efficiently, and profitably during their shift.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

• Lead and oversee daily restaurant operations during assigned shifts

• Ensure fast, friendly, and accurate customer service

• Monitor labor, speed of service, food quality, and cleanliness goals

• Execute opening, mid-shift, and closing procedures properly

• Maintain operational standards in the kitchen, service, drive-thru, and lobby

• Handle customer concerns professionally and resolve issues quickly

• Ensure proper cash handling and drawer accountability

Team Leadership

• Supervise and support crew members during shifts

• Delegate tasks and position employees effectively

• Coach and motivate team members to achieve performance expectations

• Train new employees on McDonald’s procedures and standards

• Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work culture

• Communicate effectively with management and team members

Food Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all McDonald’s food safety and sanitation standards

• Monitor product quality, holding times, and proper food handling procedures

• Maintain cleanliness throughout the restaurant, including equipment and dining areas

• Follow all health department, labor, and safety regulations

• Ensure team members follow uniform and appearance standards

Performance & Results

• Help achieve restaurant goals related to:

• Labor

• OEPE

• Food cost

• Customer satisfaction

• Drive-thru performance

• Sales growth

• Assist with inventory control and waste management

• Support restaurant readiness for visits and inspections

Qualifications

• Previous restaurant or leadership experience preferred

• Strong communication and leadership skills

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities

• Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays

• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods

• Basic math and cash handling skills

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
