Candidates must reside in the general vicinity of Columbus, Ohio or Cincinnati, Ohio. We provide CFO + Controllership services to a growing client base, along with a suite of complementary services to help our client companies scale. We’re looking for an experienced CONTROLLER with a CPA/MBA and big 4 accounting experience who loves a challenge, understands and appreciates the sense of urgency often required when dealing with a diverse startup client base and the demands of a consulting firm. Selected individual will work full-time as a member of our team, providing Controllership services to a portfolio of our growing startup client base. GSDADL – You will have the time management skills and drive to deliver on client needs and meet minimum productivity requirements of 80% billable time worked based on a 40-hour work week. The Controller may report to more than one Chief Financial Officer, and will work closely with other Controllers and other team members to manage the following functions for multiple client companies: Manage daily accounting function for a portfolio of client startup companies Management of the general ledger, accounts payable, billing and accounts receivable on an accrual-basis, in accordance with GAAP Cost accounting, when required Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations Preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations Preparation of monthly financial statements for CFO review Preparation of any required debt amortization schedules, or depreciation schedules Payroll processing Financial analysis, as needed Compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings Coordination of the preparation of required tax returns (we don’t do taxes, but we facilitate the preparation with qualified professionals) REQUIREMENTS You must love startups, and will have extensive experience managing accounting operations within multiple entity types. Additionally, you will possess the following education, skills and experience required to be successful in this role: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance 7+ years of experience in an accounting or financial management role, with a minimum of 5 years of prior experience as a Controller Mastery of GAAP accrual-basis accounting, the balance sheet and balance reconciliation process Extensive experience with Quickbooks Online and other accounting software packages Extensive experience with Microsoft suite, including financial modeling and analysis in Excel The ability to juggle multiple priorities, meet deadlines and manage a portfolio of clients Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate and take direction in support of the company’s goals Impeccable analytical and organizational skills Self-motivation and self-direction Accounting designation (CPA or CMA) preferred, or an equivalent combination of related experience and education Big 4 accounting and audit experience preferred Prior experience in consulting services is a plus Prior experience with accounting system transitions is a plus Prior experience with payroll system transitions is a plus Oh, and did we say YOU MUST LOVE STARTUPS!? LOCATION At Book+Street® we work in a highly consultative environment – with our clients and our team. Selected individual will be expected to work on-site as part of a highly collaborative team in our Grandview (Columbus) or Oakley (Cincinnati) office and will be able to travel to client sites within the Midwest.
