Research Fellow - Cancer Biology

Job Summary

An opportunity is available for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Wa Xian and Dr. Frank McKeon at Wake Forest University, North Carolina.

Candidates should have a Ph.D., demonstrated experience in synthetic organic/medicinal chemistry with emphasis on heterocyclic compound chemistry, and an ability to work independently. A background in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery with experience of parallel synthesis and purification methods is required. Some experience in molecular modeling and/or protein-inhibitor visualization is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently execute multi-step organic syntheses, purify, and characterize small molecules.

• Apply solid-phase synthesis and bioconjugation chemistry to complex molecules.

• Partner with cross-functional teams to interpret SAR and guide compound design.

• Document results, maintain accurate digital records, and adhere to EHS and laboratory best practices.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry or Organic Chemistry with years academic experience.

Experience & Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on experience in small-molecule design, synthesis, purification, and characterization.

• Proficiency with LC/MS, NMR, analytical HPLC, and prep HPLC.

• Required proficiency in using SciFinder, Reaxys, Chemdraw, etc.

• Effective oral and written communication skills; contributed to internal reports, technical documentation, or peer-reviewed publications.
