What your day looks like

You start by opening a servo drive with an intermittent fault. With minimal supervision, you trace the issue at the component level, swapping between a Huntron tracker, Multimeter, curve tracer, process calibrator, megger test, baker test, Hipot tester, and a chip reader to zero in on the failure. By mid-morning, you’re reworking surface-mount components with confident soldering and desoldering skills. After lunch, you document a new test fixture you designed, then coach a junior technician through a tricky PLC I/O board diagnosis. You end the day closing out service reports and proposing a cycle time tweak that will improve next month’s throughput.

What you’ll own

• Advanced component-level troubleshooting and repair on a wide spectrum of industrial electronics: Drives (AC, DC, VFD, Servo), PLCs, power supplies, HMIs, laser scanners, AC/DC/servo motors, circuit boards, and related controls.
• Hands-on diagnostics using a broad toolkit: Huntron tracker, Multimeter, curve tracer, process calibrator, megger test, baker test, Hipot tester, chip reader, and more.
• High-quality soldering/rework of through-hole and SMD components.
• Input to new product development when repair insights inform design improvements.
• Customer communication, including occasional travel to customer sites for on-location troubleshooting.
• Fixture design, warranty assessments, and thorough root-cause analysis.
• Refinement of standard repair processes; development of cycle-time improvements and measurable year-over-year productivity gains.
• Establishing standards and methods for testing methodology across the department.
• Accurate, timely service reporting and paperwork completion.
• Mentoring and providing direction to less experienced technicians as needed.
• Active participation in our Quality Initiative: completing required quality core classes, applying Core Values, and following company and customer safety procedures.

What you bring

• Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; and more than 10 years of related experience/training ; or 12 years of equivalent combined education and experience.
• Expert-level knowledge of electronic components and their industrial applications.
• Advanced electronic and/or mechanical aptitude.
• Strong literacy with technical documentation and communication: read/interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedures; write clear reports and correspondence; present effectively to customers and internal teams.
• Math proficiency including discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and practical use of algebra and geometry.
• Sound judgment and problem-solving skills to follow written/oral/diagrammed instructions and resolve issues involving multiple concrete variables.

Physical demands and work environment

This role regularly requires standing, walking, handling small parts with hands/fingers, reaching, climbing/ascending/descending or balancing at heights that may require a ladder or lift, and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling in confined spaces, along with frequent talking and hearing. Sitting occurs occasionally. You may occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Close and color vision are used regularly. Occasional exposure to outdoor weather and electrical shock risk is possible. Work is typically in a factory environment that is usually very loud, with potential exposure to hazardous materials and greasy or slippery floors.
