Special Education Teacher – Grades 6–12 Full Time: Academic Calendar (185 School days) TRB Eligible Steps Middle and High School ~ Torrington, CT Start Date: August 24, 2026 Position is open until filled Major Responsibilities Provide academic instruction and support for students who are enrolled in an outplacement educational program, serving students with social‑emotional difficulties and communication and behavior challenges Develop measurable IEP goals and objectives and participate in progress monitoring Complete comprehensive achievement evaluations and written report to propose services and instructional needs Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage and motivate students Continuously collaborate with school team members to ensure fidelity of learner expectations across the school environment Utilize restorative practices to help students regulate their behavior, develop perspective‑taking, and take personal responsibility for their actions Other duties as may be assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of Special Education procedures and regulations Desire to work with students who struggle with regulating behavior and social emotional responses Experience in all modules of CT-SEDS Excellent verbal and written communication skills Demonstrate flexibility in response to unpredictability of student academic and behavioral needs Qualifications / Requirements Active Connecticut Certification in Special Education (Endorsement #: 065, 165 or 265) Preference for those with cross‑endorsement in a secondary content area Ability to withstand the physical demands of frequent standing, bending, kneeling and therapeutic holding as required Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this job Application Procedure Applications should be submitted for consideration by visiting EdAdvance's employment page at and click on the APPLY button next to the job posting of interest.
