Senior Vice President for University Communications and Marketing

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as its next Senior Vice President for University Communications and Marketing (SVP UCM). This pivotal role will shape and amplify Rutgers’ narrative, elevate its national standing, and strengthen its overall reputation and impact.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a unified communications and marketing strategy across a highly decentralized university.
• Align messaging, elevate visibility, and strengthen institutional identity in collaboration with the president, cabinet, chancellors, and leaders across enrollment, advancement, research, and athletics.
• Lead the evolution of a cohesive Rutgers identity while honoring the distinct strengths and markets of each campus.
• Build a high‑performing, coordinated communications ecosystem, advance the university’s digital and media presence, and leverage data, technology, and emerging platforms to sharpen strategy and measure impact.
• Strengthen internal communications and cultivate pride and connection among alumni, students, and the broader community.
• Lead proactive, sophisticated crisis communications and serve as a strategic advisor on brand strategy, reputation, constituent engagement, and public trust.

• Strategic vision and operational excellence capable of leading at the scale and complexity of a major public research university.
• Exceptional communicator and storyteller who can frame compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
• Strong political and organizational acumen with experience navigating complex stakeholder environments.
• Ability to build trust and foster collaboration across a decentralized system.
• Data‑informed, digitally fluent, and experienced in managing reputation in fast‑paced, high‑stakes settings.
• Demonstrated leadership qualities of confidence with humility, decisiveness with diplomacy, and boldness with discipline.

Benefits

Salary range: $360,000 – $400,000, including benefits.
