Work Environment

This position is located in a dynamic hospital setting in Brooklyn, where you will interact with a diverse population of patients requiring rehabilitation services. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional flexibility to accommodate patient needs or clinic operations. This role requires you to be physically present on-site to facilitate direct patient care and collaborate seamlessly with physical therapists and other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities

As a Physical Therapist Assistant, you will engage in a variety of critical tasks, including:

• Providing direct physical therapy services under the direction of a licensed physical therapist, ensuring adherence to individualized plans of care.
• Administering therapeutic interventions to alleviate pain, restore function, and maintain maximum performance in patients recovering from injury or illness.
• Guiding patients through active and passive therapeutic exercises and functional training, including muscle reeducation, gait training, and activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Using physical agents such as heat, cold, light, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation to support rehabilitation efforts.
• Monitoring and documenting patient progress, reactions to treatments, and any observed changes in condition, communicating these effectively to the supervising therapist.
• Educating patients and their families on the proper use and care of assistive devices, including wheelchairs, crutches, canes, and prosthetics.
• Completing clinical and conference notes in a timely manner to ensure comprehensive patient records.
• Participating in continuous education and professional development opportunities, as well as interdisciplinary team meetings to foster collaborative care.
• Engaging in quality improvement initiatives designed to enhance service and patient satisfaction.
• Performing additional duties as assigned to contribute to the overall function of the department.

Patient Population / Client Focus

Qualifications

The successful candidate must meet the following criteria:

• Graduation from an accredited physical therapy assistant program with an Associate's degree in a relevant field.
• Current certification or licensure as required by New York state laws.
• CPR certification must be maintained throughout employment.
• A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation that meets organizational standards.

Preferred Experience

A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant is preferred, demonstrating proficiency in various therapeutic techniques and an understanding of rehabilitation philosophies.
